MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Mabaso, engages with some tenants occupying hijacked City of Joburg properties in Orange Grove, explaining the situation and providing clarity on the status of the properties.

During the engagement, tenants shared that they have been paying rent and other fees to individuals claiming to be the owners of the properties, as well as to people allegedly presenting themselves as City officials.

MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Mabaso, is joined by JPC officials, JMPD and SAPS for an oversight visit and verification of the status of City of Joburg owned properties in Orange Grove.

The joint effort is aimed at assessing the properties on the ground and strengthening measures to address property hijacking and protect City-owned assets.

The City of Joburg is continuing its work to create a safer, more organised and accessible informal trading environment.

Today, teams are at Noord , next to the Art Gallery, carrying out the verification of informal traders while demarcating and painting trading stalls. The process is aimed at supporting the fair allocation of trading spaces and assisting eligible traders through the permit application process.
