🚰 Water Levels Are Up, But Supply Challenges Remain – Keep Saving Water!

💧 The Vaal Dam has risen from 40% to 61.12% thanks to recent rains and overflow from the Grootdraai Dam. While this is good news, it does not mean Gauteng’s water supply issues are over.

📢 DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Infrastructure, Nico de Jager, urges residents to:
✅ Continue with water-saving practices.
✅ Understand that water delivery depends on reticulation systems and pumping infrastructure—not just dam levels.
✅ Hold government accountable for maintaining and upgrading infrastructure to prevent future crises.

🌍 Every drop counts! Let’s work together to secure Gauteng’s water future.

🌊 Gauteng Water Crisis: Full Dams ≠ Full Taps

The Vaal Dam’s water level has risen significantly from 40% to 61.12%, thanks to recent rainfall and the overflow from the Grootdraai Dam. But improved dam levels don’t guarantee reliable water supply.

🚱 Why?
💧 Aging infrastructure: Years of neglect impact water distribution.
💧 Complex systems: Water must pass through processing, pumping, and reticulation infrastructure before reaching your tap.
💧 Level 1 restrictions remain: Sustainable water management requires long-term conservation.

🔧 The DA is pushing for urgent upgrades and maintenance of Gauteng’s water infrastructure. Every drop counts—your cooperation in conserving water is essential while we tackle these challenges.

Let’s work together for a reliable and sustainable water future.

🔌 Johannesburg’s Electricity Crisis Deepens
The grounding of City Power’s Test Branch Fleet has left over 500 outages unresolved per depot, critically delaying power restoration across the city. Almost 200 vehicles have been sidelined, hampering service delivery and leaving residents in distress.

The DA demands urgent intervention from Mayor Dada Morero to resolve this crisis, including:
➡️ Clarity on Afrirent debt and repayment plans
➡️ Measures to ensure uninterrupted City Power services
➡️ Long-term solutions to prevent recurring failures

Residents deserve better. We’ll keep holding the City accountable for effective and timely service delivery.

💸 R21 Million Wasted on Suspended Officials 💸

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID) has spent over R21 million on salaries for eight suspended officials over the past 2.5 years—all while key infrastructure projects are delayed. These officials, accused of procurement irregularities, equipment theft, and other misconduct, have cost Gauteng taxpayers with no return on investment.

The DA is calling for urgent action: disciplinary cases must be resolved swiftly, with officials either reinstated or dismissed to free up funds for clinics, libraries, and schools that are overdue.

Let’s hold our government accountable to ensure our resources are used effectively!

💧 Resolving Gauteng’s Water Crisis Needs More than Quick Fixes

The DA highlights that Gauteng’s water crisis requires urgent, sustainable solutions. Rand Water’s initiatives, like pressure-reducing valves and skills training, are a start, but there’s more to be done. Core issues such as underfunded maintenance, a critical skills shortage, and outdated infrastructure demand real action.

The DA is committed to: 1️⃣ Deploying technical experts to municipalities 2️⃣ Installing essential infrastructure to reduce water losses 3️⃣ Launching a province-wide leak detection and repair programme 4️⃣ Reviewing budget allocations for infrastructure maintenance

A comprehensive audit of our water infrastructure and an urgent push for private sector collaboration will create lasting solutions. We cannot let political interference drain critical resources while Gauteng residents endure water cuts.

🚨 DA to Expose Premier Lesufi’s Role in Corruption

Tomorrow, the DA will hold a press conference at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) to expose Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s role in hiding forensic reports that have been conducted by the Gauteng Provincial Government since 2016.

For too long, these reports have been hidden, despite promises by Premier Lesufi to make them public. This is a clear attempt to shield implicated comrades.

The DA, led by Solly Msimanga MPL, will outline a detailed plan of action to pressure Premier Lesufi to release these forensic reports. We will also reveal some of the shocking findings from whistleblowers.

🗓️ Date: 15 October 2024
⏰ Time: 9:00
📍 Venue: DA Caucus room, 3rd Floor, Gauteng Provincial Legislature
