his short film, A Shepherd’s Joy, has been officially selected for screening at the Miami Beach Film Festival in the United States (9–10 May 2026) placing a powerful local story on a global platform.
Rooted in rural storytelling and cultural authenticity, A Shepherd’s Joy reflects the strength, resilience and lived experiences of our communities.

This achievement highlights the growing recognition of talent emerging from the Harry Gwala District and the broader KwaZulu-Natal region.

🎬📽️ Harry Gwala District hosted a Film & Television Masterclass to Empower Emerging Filmmakers.

The Harry Gwala Development Agency, in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, KZN Tourism and Film Authority, as well as the Harry Gwala Film Institute, successfully hosted a Film & Television Masterclass on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Sani Pass Premier Resort.The Film and TV Masterclass brought together aspiring filmmakers, talented creatives, storytellers, industry professionals, and local tourism stakeholders from across the district. Among the stakeholders in attendance was the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) Agency, responsible for ensuring the equitable growth of the Film and TV industry in South Africa. The Manager of Local Economic Development and Tourism, Ms. Z. Mkulisi, in her welcoming remarks, highlighted that film and television are not only powerful forms of entertainment; they are also vital tools for education, cultural expression, and economic development. Through compelling stories and creative production, this industry has the ability to inspire, inform, and connect people across communities and cultures.The Masterclass was part of the Agency's continued efforts to create awareness and strengthen skills development within the local film and television industry in the District.Participants gained practical insight into film production, location scouting, and opportunities within the creative economy, while exploring the potential of the District as a destination for film production.

HARRY GWALA DEVELOPMENT AGENCY SHOWCASES DESTINATION AT MEETINGS AFRICA 2026

The Harry Gwala Development Agency participated in the Meetings Africa held from 23–25 February 2026 at the Sandton Convention Centre. Hosted by the South African Tourism, the event remains the Africa’s premier business events trade platform.

The Agency, representing the District under the Drakensberg & Beyond destination brand, strategically positioned the Harry Gwala District as a competitive and emerging destination for business events, conferencing, incentives and leisure tourism. The exhibition stand prominently showcased the iconic Southern Drakensberg landscapes, authentic cultural experiences and flagship events, strengthening the district’s value proposition within the Meetings and events sector.
During the three-day engagement, the Agency conducted structured business-to-business meetings with hosted buyers, event planners and industry stakeholders, focusing on partnership development, market access and investment promotion opportunities.

The Agency participation reaffirms its commitment to enhancing destination visibility, driving tourism-led economic growth and advancing sustainable development within the Harry Gwala District.
