CITY AT WORK: WATER UNIT WEEKLY RECAP

The Water Unit concluded another productive week of service delivery interventions aimed at ensuring reliable water supply, maintaining infrastructure, and improving service delivery across communities within Rustenburg.

Throughout the week, teams attended to a range of maintenance and repair activities, including the repair of water leaks, replacement of damaged pipes, maintenance of valves and hydrants, and the restoration of water supply in affected areas. These interventions were undertaken to minimise water losses, improve system efficiency, and ensure uninterrupted access to water for residents.

The unit also conducted routine inspections and preventative maintenance on water infrastructure to identify potential challenges before they impact service delivery. In addition, response teams remained on standby to address reported water-related faults and emergencies across various wards.

The municipality continues to encourage residents to report water leaks, burst pipes, and other water-related issues promptly to assist in preserving this valuable resource and ensuring timely repairs.

The Rustenburg Local Municipality remains committed to providing sustainable and reliable water services through the City at Work programme, contributing to improved living conditions and the wellbeing of all communities.

CITY AT WORK: ROADS AND TRANSPORT WEEKLY SERVICE DELIVERY WRAP-UP

The Roads and Transport Department continues to make significant progress in improving road infrastructure, storm water management, and community facilities across Rustenburg through the City at Work programme.

During the week ending 12 June 2026, maintenance teams focused on storm water drainage interventions to improve water flow and reduce flooding risks in affected areas.

In Ward 18 (Rustenburg East), teams successfully unblocked two storm water drains at the corner of Klopper and Ridder Streets. In addition, sand and grass were removed from sections of Boom and Zendeling Streets, covering a distance of approximately 271 metres to improve road safety and drainage.

In Ward 14, maintenance crews replaced storm water drain cover slabs at No. 82 Arend Street, ensuring the safety of road users and pedestrians.

In Ward 19 (Paardekraal Extension 3), an excavator was deployed to clean a storm water channel at No. 9570 Matokelo Street, covering approximately 150 metres and enhancing the area’s storm water management capacity.

The Construction Division also recorded notable progress on various infrastructure projects. In Ward 41, grader blading was undertaken on a 200m x 200m sports ground in Seraleng, improving the facility for community use and sporting activities.

Road resurfacing preparations continued in Ward 44, where tipper trucks transported slag from the Roads Department depot to Lekgalong for the upgrading of internal roads.

Furthermore, in Ward 23, tipper trucks transported mine stone from 16 Shaft Mine to Kanana’s Bethel Section to support the resurfacing of a funeral road, improving accessibility for residents.

CITY AT WORK WRAPS UP ANOTHER PRODUCTIVE WEEK OF SERVICE DELIVERY: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The City at Work programme concluded another productive week of service delivery activities aimed at improving the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of communities across Rustenburg.

As part of ongoing environmental maintenance efforts, Community Development teams undertook grass-cutting operations along the R104 corridor, enhancing road visibility and contributing to a cleaner and safer environment for motorists and pedestrians.

Today’s operations focused on the clearing of illegal dumping sites and de-bushing activities at Sunrise View Sports Grounds in Sunrise View, Ward 19, as well as Gousblom Street in Zinniaville, Ward 43. These interventions form part of the municipality’s commitment to maintaining public spaces and addressing environmental challenges in residential areas.

In addition, teams conducted the loading and removal of garden waste at the StruMosa Garden Site in Ward 14, ensuring proper waste management and the upkeep of municipal facilities.

The Rustenburg Local Municipality remains committed to delivering visible and impactful services through the City at Work programme, creating cleaner, greener, and more liveable communities for all residents.

FOLLOW-UP ENGAGEMENT WITH POPO MOLEFE (WARD 22) COMMUNITY DEMONSTRATES MUNICIPALITY’S COMMITMENT TO SERVICE DELIVERY

The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Cllr Sheila Mabale-Huma, today participated in a follow-up meeting with the community of ward 22, following commitments made during a community engagement held last week.

The efforts to strengthen communication with residents and provide feedback on concerns and challenges raised by the community. During last week’s engagement, residents highlighted several service delivery matters requiring urgent attention, and the Executive Mayor committed to ensuring that the relevant municipal departments attend to these issues and provide progress reports.

Accompanied by Member of the Mayoral Committee Cllr Lebethe, responsible for Planning and Human Settlements, municipal officials and stakeholders, the Executive Mayor engaged directly with community members to assess progress made thus far and to outline interventions planned to address outstanding matters.

Addressing the gathering, Cllr Mabale-Huma highlighted the municipality’s commitment to responsive governance and accountability, emphasizing the importance of continuous engagement between the municipality and residents.

“The municipality remains dedicated to ensuring that concerns raised by communities are not only heard but are acted upon. This follow-up meeting is a demonstration of our commitment to working together with residents to improve service delivery and the quality of life in our communities,” said the Executive Mayor.

Community members welcomed the opportunity to receive feedback and engage directly with municipal leadership on matters affecting their daily lives.

EXECUTIVE MAYOR LEADS YOUTH DIALOGUE TO ADVANCE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Cllr Sheila Mabale-Huma, today led a Youth Dialogue held at the Old Town Hall in Rustenburg as part of the municipality’s Youth Month programme commemorating the 50th anniversary of the June 16 Uprising.

The event was attended by the Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Special Projects, Cllr Virginia Mputle, municipal officials, youth formations, students, entrepreneurs, and young people from across Rustenburg.

Held under the theme, “Aligning with Accelerating Economic Opportunities and Skills Development for Young People,” the dialogue provided a platform for meaningful engagement between municipal leadership and the youth on matters affecting their development, empowerment, and participation in the local economy.

Addressing participants, Executive Mayor Cllr Mabale-Huma reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to creating opportunities that enable young people to contribute meaningfully to economic growth and community development. She encouraged the youth to take advantage of available skills development programmes, entrepreneurship initiatives, and educational opportunities.

MMC for Special Projects, Cllr Virginia Mputle, emphasized the importance of active youth participation in governance and development programmes, noting that young people remain central to the municipality’s vision for a prosperous and inclusive Rustenburg.

The dialogue focused on employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, innovation, skills development, and partnerships aimed at addressing youth unemployment and promoting sustainable livelihoods. Participants were also afforded an opportunity to raise concerns, share ideas, and engage directly with municipal leadership.

As the country commemorates the bravery and sacrifices of the youth of 1976, Rustenburg Local Municipality remains committed to ensuring that today’s generation of young people is empowered with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities required to build a better future.
