When Africa celebrates Africa Day, it is time for honest reflection on African leadership. For far too long, our continent and its people have been plagued by poor leadership, marked by weak decision-making, lack of vision, unaccountability, indecisiveness, and rampant corruption.
This leadership crisis has fueled conflicts, entrenched underdevelopment, triggered economic crises, and enabled the continued plundering of Africa’s resources. Africa’s growth, success, and development continue to be held back by inept leaders who lack the foresight to unlock the continent’s immense potential.
These leaders have often been used by foreign powers to sow divisions, create crises, perpetuate civil wars, and displace millions of Africans from their own countries.
It is time for African youth to stand up and demand the unity of our people against poor leadership. It is time for the youth to rise against tyranny and hold accountable those leaders who continue to fail the continent. It is time for young Africans to come forward and fight for the development of a prosperous Africa, a continent that harnesses its rich natural resources, fertile agricultural land, abundant water, vast skies, and wildlife to become a global leader.
As Africans, in every district and corner of our continent, it is our responsibility to build a better Africa, an Africa we can all be proud of.
One Africa means no more war in Sudan, Congo, Central African Republic, Somalia, Ethiopia, or anywhere else on the continent. A united Africa is one that can collectively resist Western dominance and imperialism, and reject being used as vassal states. It is an Africa that no longer depends on handouts and charity from its former colonial rulers.
A united and developed Africa means Zimbabweans building a successful Zimbabwe, Nigerians building a thriving Nigeria, and the same for Somalia, Sudan, Congo, Ethiopia, and every nation across the continent. It means removing from power those leaders whose ineptitude and corruption continue to divide and hold Africa back.
Happy Africa Day!
