*Message to the youth of today* 👇

You’re growing up in a world that’s noisy, fast, and always online. Everyone’s shouting what you “should” be doing. So here’s what I’d say if we were sitting on a stoep in Limpopo with a cold drink:

*1. Protect your attention like money*
Your phone, TikTok, Instagram — they’re designed to steal your focus. Focus is your real currency. Whoever controls what you think about, controls your future. Read books. Learn a skill. Sit in silence sometimes. The richest people aren’t the ones with the most followers. They’re the ones who can focus for 3 hours straight.

*2. Skills > Degrees, but both help*
A paper qualification opens doors. But skills pay bills. Learn to code, weld, fix solar, sell, write, edit video, farm, budget. AI can replace info, but it can’t replace someone who can solve real problems with their hands + brain. Be “T-shaped”: good at one thing, curious about everything else.

*3. Don’t confuse consumption with progress*
Watching “how to get rich” videos is not the same as starting the hustle. Planning your gym routine is not the same as lifting. At some point, stop studying the map and start walking. Action beats motivation every time.

*4. Your reputation is your CV now*
Employers, clients, future partners — they Google you. What you post, how you treat waiters, if you keep promises… that’s your “karma” in real time. In 2026, character is searchable. Be the person people want in their corner.

*5. Build for the long game*
The world wants you to want things NOW. Fast money, instant fame. But real wealth + respect comes from boring consistency: saving R500/month, showing up to work on time, learning 1% better daily. Compound interest works on money AND character.

*6. Don’t wait for government to “create jobs”*
Local Economic Development starts with YOU. What problem can you solve in Montana, Naboomspruit, or your township? Water issues? Tutor kids? Fix phones? Where there’s a problem, there’s a business. Be the employer your friends are waiting for.

*7. Stay rooted, but think big*
Love your culture, your language, your gogo’s cooking. But don’t let borders limit your mind. A kid in Makhado can build an app used in Canada. Your background is not a ceiling — it’s your unique advantage.

*Last thing:* You don’t have to have it all figured out at 20. But you DO have to start. Try things. Fail. Learn. Adjust. The only real failure is standing still because you’re scared.

The world needs your energy, your ideas, your hustle. Not your excuses.

What’s one thing you want to start building this month — skill, business, habit? Go for it. Happy youth Month.
