ANC WOMEN’S LEAGUE NKANGALA REGION STATEMENT ON THE BRUTAL MURDER OF LEBOGANG ROSE PHETLA
26 May 2026
The ANC Women’s League Nkangala Region is deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal murder of Ms. Lebogang Rose Phetla, allegedly at the hands of a male suspect in Vaalbank under Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality on Saturday evening, 23 May 2026.
According to reports, the victim was mercilessly shot multiple times in front of her children. This horrific act is yet another painful reminder of the escalating crisis of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide facing women and children in our communities.
As the ANC Women’s League, we strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and call for the law to take its full course without fear or favour. Women must feel safe in their homes and communities . No woman deserves to live in fear of losing her life.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the Phetla family. We further call upon government institutions, law enforcement agencies, community leaders, men’s organisations, churches and society at large to unite in confronting the pandemic of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.
The ANC Women’s League Nkangala Region will continue to advocate for the protection of women and children and intensify community awareness campaigns against GBVF. Enough is enough.
We note the arrest of the suspect and trust that justice will prevail.
Together, we must build communities where women and children can live free from fear of violence and abuse.
