FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UMKHONTO WESIZWE PARTY MPUMALANGA PROVINCIAL DETACHMENT STATEMENT ON THE RECENT BY-ELECTIONS IN NKANGALA REGION, THEMBISILE HANI

The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party Mpumalanga Provincial Detachment acknowledges the outcomes of the recent by-elections held in the Nkangala Region, specifically within the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, on June 11, 2025.

The by-elections in Ward 18 (Vezubuhle Thokozani) and Ward 31 (Ekukhanyeni South) of Thembisile Hani, while seeing the African National Congress (ANC) retain their majority, have provided valuable insights into the evolving political landscape of our province.
In Ward 18 (Vezubuhle Thokozani), the ANC secured approximately 73% of the vote, with the MK Party emerging as the second-strongest contender with 15% of the vote, surpassing the EFF. Notably, in the Somususwa Secondary School district, the MK Party garnered 30% of the vote, demonstrating a significant showing in a key area.
Similarly, in Ward 31 (Ekukhanyeni South), the ANC won with 70%, and the MK Party again secured second place with 16% of the vote, ahead of the EFF. Our performance in voting districts like Sinetjhudu Primary School in Kwaggafontein D, where we achieved 29% of the vote, highlights our growing support base.

The MK Party Mpumalanga Provincial Detachment views these results not as a setback, but as a clear indication of our rapid growth and increasing acceptance among the people of Mpumalanga. We entered these by-elections as a relatively new force, yet we have consistently demonstrated our ability to challenge established parties and secure a significant portion of the vote.

We commend our dedicated members, volunteers, and candidates who worked tirelessly on the ground, engaging with communities and articulating the vision of the MK Party for a better South Africa. The support we received, particularly in key voting districts, is a testament to the resonance of our message and the aspirations of the people for genuine change.

The results show a clear shift in voter sentiment, with a notable portion of voters moving away from traditional political homes towards the MK Party. This trend, where we have often outperformed the EFF and significantly impacted the ANC's traditional strongholds, reinforces our belief that the MK Party is the true voice of the disaffected and the hope for a revitalized political future.
We will analyze these results meticulously to understand the specific dynamics of each ward and further strengthen our strategies for future electoral contests. The MK Party remains committed to addressing the pressing issues faced by the communities in Nkangala Region, including unemployment, service delivery failures, and corruption.

We extend our gratitude to all voters who participated in the by-elections, regardless of their political affiliation. Your democratic participation is crucial for the health of our nation.
The MK Party Mpumalanga Provincial Detachment will continue to build on this momentum, expand our presence, and work towards achieving our mandate of bringing about radical economic transformation and restoring the dignity of our people.
