STATEMENT BY THE ANC REGIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF DR WB RUBUSANA REGION

1 April 2026

The African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee of the Dr WB Rubusana Region extends its warmest revolutionary congratulations to the newly elected Regional Executive Committee of the ANC Veterans League (ANCVL) in the Dr WB Rubusana Region, led by Cde Mnikina.

We salute the successful holding of the ANCVL Regional Conference on 30 March 2026 at Robbie De Lange Hall, KuGompo, convened by the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANCVL. The conference was officially opened by the ANC Regional Chairperson, Cde Princess Faku.

It received a comprehensive political report from Regional Chairperson Cde Mnikina and an organisational report from Regional Secretary Cde Calata. Delegates engaged in thorough, frank and constructive discussions on the renewal of our movement and the challenges facing the organisation.

This conference marks another important milestone in strengthening the ANCVL as a critical pillar of the ANC in our region. The election of a new leadership demonstrates the continued commitment of our veterans to unity, discipline and the advancement of the National Democratic Revolution.

The ANC Veterans League exists to ensure that veterans of the liberation struggle — those who have served the ANC and the movement with distinction for an unbroken period of 40 years and who are 60 years of age or older — continue to make a full and rich contribution to the work of the ANC, to the broader democratic movement, and to the life of the nation.

As an autonomous body within the overall structure of the ANC, the ANCVL functions as an integral part of our organisation with its own constitution, rules and regulations, always consistent with the Constitution and policies of the ANC.

Its political aims and objectives are clear and unwavering:
• To mobilise and unite veterans so that they remain active participants in the struggle for a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa as envisaged in the Freedom Charter;
• To preserve and defend the revolutionary traditions, history and values of the ANC and the liberation movement;
• To provide wise counsel, guidance and leadership to the ANC at all levels, drawing on the rich experience and wisdom accumulated over decades of struggle;
• To advance the renewal and rebuilding of the ANC, combat corruption, factionalism and any deviation from our core principles; and
• To ensure that veterans continue to play a leading role in the social, economic and political life of the nation, contributing to the deepening of democracy and the improvement of the lives of all South Africans, especially the poor and working class.

The ANC Regional Executive Committee of Dr WB Rubusana Region pledges its full support to the newly elected ANCVL Regional Executive Committee under the leadership of Cde Mnikina as Regional Chairperson, Cde Phumeza Ngxale as the Regional Secretary and Cde Phumla Nazo as Regional Treasurer . Together, we will work tirelessly to strengthen the ANC, renew our branches, and deliver on our historic mission of a better life for all.

We call on all structures of the ANC, the Alliance and the broader mass democratic movement in the Dr WB Rubusana Region to rally behind the new ANCVL leadership and to draw on the invaluable experience of our veterans in the ongoing task of organisational renewal and service to the people.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STATEMENT OF THE 8 REGIONS OF THE ANC EASTERN CAPE: IN DEFENSE OF ANC PROCESSES AGAINST UNFOUNDED MALICIOUS ATTACKS

24 March 2026

The Regions of the African National Congress (ANC) in Eastern Cape stand in solidarity with the ANC internal processes on membership administration, whose authority rests within the office of the Secretary General, Comrade Fikile Mbalula.

The malicious attacks and false allegations that there is deliberate manipulation of the organisation's processes are nothing but blatant lies and a deliberate plot to discredit and subvert our organisation’s internal democracy. We are calling for restraint and strict adherence to the internal rules and processes, especially by those in positions of responsibility.

We call on our leaders and members to desist from dividing the ANC, especially during a time in which we should be more united and focused on renewal. The provincial conference must come and go, so that we can use the energy to focus on the real task ahead, which is resolving the challenges confronting the people of the Eastern Cape and South Africa. It is unprecedented that a sitting Provincial Secretary would decide to pen down a letter to national officials instead of addressing such first within our structures, the Provincial Secretariat which he convenes, the officials, the PWC, and the PEC, all were not considered, instead he decided to shoot straight to the national officials. It is also interesting how we find similarities in what he raises and what is being raised by the court papers of those attempting to litigate against the provincial conference, it is too coincidental. This is also problematic considering a video which was circulating a few weeks ago allegedly involving one of his associate PEC member.

We are proud to report that the ANC has successfully convened 7 out of 8 Eastern Cape regional conferences peacefully, orderly, and without incident, demonstrating the stability and strength of our organisation. The courts have recently ruled in favour of the processes verified by the organisation’s internal processes, indicative of the strength of our highly regulated internal party systems and processes. This is a confirmation of the robustness of our organisation's structures and the trust reposed in the Secretary General. We commend the ANC members in our regions for their maturity and commitment to the ANC.
We note with pride that this process of regional conferences in the Eastern Cape has produced 4 women as regional chairpersons, with one region (Amathole) having both a female chairperson and secretary, a testament to the ANC's commitment to women empowerment and gender equality. This achievement reflects our organisation's values and its commitment to promoting women in leadership positions. We are proud of the progress made and will continue to push for greater representation of women in leadership. The ANC, as led by President Ramaphosa and Secretary General Mbalula, remains the beacon of hope for women in South Africa.

The Regions of the ANC in Eastern Cape are united and determined to work with our provincial and national leadership to advance the ANC's mission and vision. We reject the narcissistic tendencies of those who resort to courts when electoral processes do not favour them. We have multiple internal structures in place to address grievances, including appeals to the branch, province, and national disputes resolution committees, which act independently of the Secretary General’s office. We must state categorically that the Secretary General’s office does not convene BGMs and BBGMs; branches do, it only verifies if they were convened in accordance with established rules, therefore the complaints about their seating are misdirected.

We condemn in the harshest terms the reckless and baseless allegations made by the Provincial Secretary Ngcukaitobi and his cohorts, which are nothing but a desperate attempt to subvert the will of the branches and undermine the organisation. Their actions are a travesty, a shameless display of self-serving ambition, and a betrayal of the trust reposed in them by the ANC members. We demand that the Provincial Secretary desist from misrepresenting the organisation.
Our organisation is bigger than any individual, and we are disappointed by the conduct of the Provincial Secretary who undermines our structures and misrepresents us in national platforms. We wish our leaders could demonstrate confidence in our internal processes; the PEC and its structures are capable of handling all issues it faces. Personal ambition ahead of the upcoming 10th provincial conference should not supersede organisational interest to build a credible and effective organisation.

Any attempt to undermine the internal processes, including membership administration, is unacceptable and is rejected by all regions in the Eastern Cape. We have chosen to work together to unite the province, and those who are against unity are terrified. We have chosen stability and continuity over unguided, power-hungry, premature change. We have chosen that we cannot fix what is not broken. We have chosen to support President Ramaphosa's renewal agenda and strengthen our branches. The Secretary General’s office has our full support, and we will work tirelessly to advance the ANC's unity and renewal agenda.
We did not expect renewal to be a walk in the park, but we call on all those who are within to work to support renewal and not work with external forces to disrupt the ANC from within. The membership system has brought order and discipline to the ANC’s membership administration processes, despite minor challenges here and there, with the support of human capital, our system is maturing and becoming better. Regional chairpersons and secretaries of the Eastern Cape are committed to a peaceful path to the provincial conference this weekend and will do all in our power to defend unity and cohesion.

We will not be swayed by malicious attacks and false allegations of branch tampering. We stand with the Secretary General and will continue to work towards a stronger, more united ANC.

We call on all ANC members to rally behind our leadership and work towards strengthening our organisation and delivering for our people.
In conclusion, we say to our detractors: the ANC is not for sale, the ANC is not for rent, and the ANC will not be derailed. We will continue to march forward, united and determined, towards a better life for all the people of the Eastern Cape and South Africa. The 10 regions of ANC in the Eastern Cape are closing ranks as guided by President Oliver Reginald Tambo at the 1969 African National Congress in Morogoro conference in Tanzania wherein President Tambo said, “Be vigilant, comrades. The enemy is vigilant. Beware the wedge driver! Men who creep from ear to ear, driving wedges among us; who go around creating splits and divisions. Beware the wedge driver! Watch his poisonous tongue”. We are encouraging members of the ANC in our 10 regions to also beware of the wedge drivers and close ranks to defend the unity of the organisation.

ANC Statement on the People’s March – KuGompo City, 21 March 2026

The African National Congress warmly salutes the thousands of patriotic citizens who gathered today in East London for the People’s March in defence of our sovereignty and hard-won democratic gains.

South Africa belongs to its people — not to any foreign power, lobby or agenda. We will not be bullied. We reject regime-change plots, smear campaigns and the lie of “white genocide” that are used to justify interference in our internal affairs.

As the party of liberation, the ANC reaffirms our unshakeable commitment to national sovereignty, self-determination and the sovereign equality of all nations. The people of South Africa, through their democratically elected government, will continue to decide our own future — free from external dictation.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the members of the NEC, PEC, REC and BEC of the ANC, our Alliance Partners, the structures of the Mass Democratic Movement, the International Progressive community, the Leagues of the ANC, and the Religious Fraternity for their steadfast support and active participation in the march.

Amandla!
The struggle for true sovereignty continues.
Forward to a truly independent and prosperous South Africa!
