TO: The Student Community
SUBJECT: SASCO STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF SRC STAY-AWAY
DATE: 19 March 2026
Revolutionary greetings to the student populace at large, hopefully this communique finds you well and in good health at these trying times.
The South African Students Congress (SASCO) expresses its full and unwavering support for the Student Representative Council (SRC) regarding the call for a stay-away across all campuses.
The recently installed โconditions of entryโ boards by the institution are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns about the safety, dignity, and well-being of students. As students, we cannot be expected to learn in an environment where our safety is not guaranteed and where the institution seeks to absolve itself of responsibility.
We therefore fully support the position of the SRC that students will not attend classes until these boards are removed and the institution provides clear assurance on the safety and protection of all students on campus.
Furthermore, SASCO calls on all student formations, organizations, and progressive structures to unite behind the SRC and take a firm, collective stand on this matter. Unity is critical in ensuring that student voices are respected and taken seriously.
We should collectively engage on convening a meeting with institutional management no later than tomorrow, with the aim of resolving this matter urgently so that normal academic activities can resume by Monday under conditions that respect and prioritize student safety.
