STATEMENT BY THE ANC GILBERT SIMOYANA BRANCH
ON THE 2025 MATRIC RESULTS - WARDS 34 & 36

The African National Congress Gilbert Simoyana Branch extends its warmest congratulations to the Class of 2025 from schools in Dimbaza, Wards 34 and 36, for their perseverance, discipline and determination in completing their matric year under challenging circumstances.

We proudly congratulate the following schools on their 2025 performance:
1. Dumalisile Senior Secondary School - 86.7%
2. Hoho Senior Secondary School - 82.5%
3. Archie Velile Senior Secondary School - 81.7%
4. Kuyasa Senior Secondary School - 79.2%
5. Dimbaza Central Senior Secondary School - 75.0%
6. Richards Varha Senior Secondary School - 59.7%

While we welcome and acknowledge these results, we believe they also present an important opportunity for honest reflection and constructive debate. In particular, the branch wishes to raise a discussion on subject choices and subject combinations offered to learners, and whether these are adequately aligned with learners' abilities, aspirations and the broader economic and developmental needs of our community. It is our considered view that subject selection may be one of the factors limiting our ability to reach our full academic and developmental potential.

To the learners who did not achieve the outcomes they had hoped for, we wish to emphasise that this moment does not define your future. We encourage you to stand up, re-strategise and go again, making use of second-chance programmes and support structures. Many have walked this path before and emerged stronger and more determined.

In advancing this discussion, the ANC Gilbert Simoyana Branch will be embarking on a structured consultation journey with SADTU as our Alliance partner, together with school management, educators, learners, parents and the broader community. This process will seek to generate informed dialogue and practical interventions that strengthen academic outcomes and expand post-school opportunities for our learners.

Education remains a central pillar of social and economic transformation. As a branch, we reaffirm our commitment to working collectively to improve both access to education and the quality of outcomes for the young people of Dimbaza.

Once more, we congratulate the Class of 2025, and to those returning to the classroom, we say: do not lose hope - your journey continues, and your potential remains intact.

GILBERT SIMOYANA BRANCH STATEMENT ON THE OUTCOMES OF THE 5TH REGIONAL CONFERENCE

The Gilbert Simoyana Branch of the African National Congress extends its appreciation to all structures and delegates who contributed to the successful conclusion of the 5th Regional Conference of the Dr WB Rubusana Region. The conference has reaffirmed the strength of our movement and provided clear direction on the work that lies ahead.

As a branch, we are particularly proud of our delegation, led with discipline and clarity by the Branch Chairperson. Our delegates participated meaningfully in the commissions and plenary sessions, ensuring that the voice and experiences of our branch were well represented. Their contributions helped shape key discussions and resolutions aimed at strengthening organisational capacity, deepening political education, and improving service delivery within our communities.

We welcome and fully support the newly elected Regional Executive Committee. The branch is ready to work with the REC to implement the strategic priorities adopted by the conference. These strategies will guide our collective efforts to renew our organisation, build unity, and develop the ANC brand in a way that restores public trust and reconnects the movement with the people.
We look forward to rolling up our sleeves and translating conference resolutions into practical programmes that strengthen branches, empower members, and advance the socio-economic development of our communities.

STATEMENT BY THE ANC GILBERT SIMOYANA BRANCH ON THE BRUTAL KILLING OF A WOMAN IN WARD 34

The African National Congress Gilbert Simoyana Branch is deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal killing of a woman in Ward 34, who is also alleged to have been r***d. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this painful and traumatic time.

The Branch condemns this heinous act in the strongest possible terms. Such crimes are an affront to our shared humanity and have no place in our community. The increasing frequency of these violent attacks on women and other vulnerable members of society is deeply concerning and demands decisive action from all of us.

We call on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and ensure that the perpetrator is arrested and faces the full might of the law. Justice must not only be done, but must also be seen to be done.

As the ANC Gilbert Simoyana Branch, we will pay a courtesy visit to the family of the deceased to offer our condolences and support. We further commit to working closely with civil society organisations, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to organise a march against gender-based violence and crimes targeting the vulnerable in our ward. Details of this march will be communicated once all logistical arrangements have been finalised.

We call on all residents of Ward 34 to stand united against these acts of violence and to cooperate fully with the South African Police Service in restoring safety and security in our communities. Together, we must build a society that protects and values every human life — especially that of women and children.

The ANC Gilbert Simoyana Branch remains steadfast in its commitment to fight for justice, equality, and the safety of all people in Ward 34.

This Mandela Day, we are taking action to honour Madiba’s legacy through practical service that uplifts lives.

GILBERT SIMOYANA BRANCH CALLS FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT IN SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

As the Gilbert Simoyana Branch, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Ukhonanathi “Spider Lady” Pasmani, the 18-year-old boxing sensation from Dimbaza, who has made us proud by clinching gold in the flyweight division at the South African Boxing Championships held in Pretoria.

Her victory is not just a personal triumph — it is a powerful reminder of the potential that lies within our communities when talent is nurtured, supported, and given a fighting chance.

As a branch, we remain committed to encouraging and monitoring sport development in our area. We firmly believe that active youth participation in sport is one of the strongest weapons in our fight against drug and alcohol abuse, which continue to threaten the future of our young people.

We therefore call upon parents, schools, local stakeholders, and the broader community to stand with us in building safe spaces for young athletes, investing in sports programs, and celebrating the achievements of our local champions.

Let us unite to ensure that every young person in Ward 34 sees sport as not just a pastime, but a pathway to discipline, opportunity, and success.
