What happened with Dial-a-Ride is more than a single service fight. It’s one of the first dominos in exposing Cape Town’s accountability crisis.

When the City thought it could quietly cut a service for our most vulnerable residents, it set off a chain reaction.

This fight revealed how little the City listens, and how accountability often has to be forced from the outside.

For years, the City has operated without a public participation policy — and that’s not by accident. It’s by design, allowing decisions to be imposed with little to no consultation.

DCI GOODWOOD UTILITY CHARGES SLASHED AFTER GOOD PARTY INTERVENTION

On Friday, 15 August 2025, tenants of the DCI Social Housing facility in Goodwood received written confirmation that their monthly fixed water and electricity charges will be reduced by 75.6% from September 2025 onwards.

This means a combined saving of R533.60 per household per month
* Electricity fixed charges will drop from R390.87 to R115.00 per month
* Water fixed charges will drop from R315.23 to R57.50 per month
* Tenants will also now receive the first 6 kilolitres of cold water free each month
