Exciting news for the Overstrand region! 🎉

Kleinmond has been selected to host the 5th Western Cape Government Youth EXPO on 16 June 2026.

Hosted in partnership with Mthimkhulu Community Development - Program of The Grail Centre Trust, a programme of Grail Kleinmond, this year's EXPO will bring together young people, government, education institutions, training providers, and employers under the theme: "Economic Uprising for the Next 50 Years: Partnerships for Skills, Jobs, and Youth Development."

The event will connect hundreds of young people with opportunities in education, skills development, entrepreneurship, and employment, helping to build pathways to a brighter future for the next generation.

⛔️ Western Cape Cabinet Condemns Xenophobic Attacks ⛔️

I, and every single member of cabinet, condemn, in the strongest possible terms, all acts of violence, intimidation, or lawlessness against foreign nationals.

The xenophobic attacks were top of the agenda at today’s extended cabinet meeting where we were briefed by SAPS leadership.

Mediators have been deployed, SAPS is conducting operations, and I have offered all available provincial resources to prevent further violence.

South Africa is a constitutional democracy. Frustrations about immigration policy must be addressed through lawful processes, not through violence. Those responsible for criminal acts will face the full consequences of the law.

Youth Month provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made in empowering young people, while recognising the work that still lies ahead.

The Department of Social Development remains committed to creating opportunities that enable young people to reach their full potential through education, skills development, employment pathways, and community support.

Our youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are active contributors to the growth and development of our communities today. By investing in their future, we are investing in a stronger, more resilient Western Cape.

This Youth Month, let us continue working together to ensure that every young person has access to the opportunities, support, and resources they need to succeed.

⚠️ Severe weather warning for the Western Cape

The South African Weather Service has issued high-level weather warnings for parts of the province, particularly the Garden Route and Central Karoo, with heavy rainfall expected from Wednesday. Residents are encouraged to remain alert, take the necessary precautions, and stay informed as conditions develop.

The Western Cape Department of Social Development will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates should any of our offices need to close due to the weather.

If you would like to support communities that may be affected by the storm, please consider contributing through the Cape Care Fund. Your support helps humanitarian relief organisations provide essential assistance to vulnerable residents when they need it most.

Thank you to Laerskool De Kuilen Primary School for welcoming my team as part of Child Protection Week!

It was a privilege to engage with learners about the importance of child safety, speaking up when something is wrong, and knowing where to turn for help.

To make the day even more memorable, our Child Protection mascot made a special surprise appearance!

Today we celebrate World Foster Day, a day to recognise the foster families who open their hearts and homes to children in need. 💙

Foster care provides more than just a place to stay; it offers stability, belonging, support, and the opportunity for children to thrive in a loving family environment.

Join us in raising awareness for foster care and celebrating the families, social workers, and communities who make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children every day.

This week marks Child Protection Week, and for this week’s Impact Story, we’re shining a spotlight on RX Radio SA , a truly unique radio station that puts children’s voices at the centre of the conversation all year round.

Hosted by children from the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, RX Radio creates a platform where young people can share their thoughts, discuss topics that matter to them, and have their voices heard.

It is inspiring to see a space where children are empowered, included, and encouraged to speak confidently about the world around them.
