Table Mountain Aerial Cableway The Cableway was first built more than 90 years ago. On 4 October 1929 the Cableway opened its doors to its first visitors.

The best views of Cape Town are seen from the top of Table Mountain. The Cableway takes you to the summit in under 5 minutes and the cable car's rotating floor ensure that all visitors get a 360 degree aerial view of the city. The 65-passenger cable car runs from Tafelberg Road to the top of Table Mountain. To date the Cableway has transported more than 26 million visitors to the summit.

900 000 visitors from all over the world use the Cableway annually.

Plan ahead for your Table Mountain adventure
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will be closed for annual maintenance from 27 July to 9 August 2026.

If you're visiting Cape Town during this period, be sure to schedule your Cableway experience before or after the closure dates.

We're looking forward to welcoming visitors back from 10 August 2026, weather dependant, ready for more unforgettable journeys to the top.

To ensure the continued safety and reliability of Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, we will be closed for annual maintenance from 27 July to 9 August 2026.

This important work helps us maintain the world-class experience that visitors know and love.
