As COSAS Mpumalanga, we condemn the unhealthy obsession of comrades within the organisation who feel entitled to this glorious movement. We refuse to be associated with political twits who go all out to prove their obsession and power hunger.
Michael Mayalo masquerades on behalf of the organisation, forming illegitimate and unrecognized structures that seek only to divide and reduce COSAS to a game of factionalism.

Indeed comrades we are reminded in these times of the words of Comrade OR Tambo who warned us about characters such as Cde Michael and his cabal of attention seekers.

We further plead with the ANC to stop dividing this gigantic movement with meddling hands and opinions, dictatorship and factionalism. Impela uTambo angalila uma engasibona sinje.

And as students we reaffirm our confidence in the leadership of COSAS as led by cde Thabang Mokoena and the NEC collective.

Be vigilant, comrades. The enemy is vigilant. Beware the wedge driver! Men who creep from ear to ear, driving wedges amongst us; who go around creating splits and divisions. Beware the wedge driver! Watch his poisonous tongue.
-President Oliver Tambo

Statement of the Congress of South African Students (COSAS) North West.

For Immediate Release

Att: Media, the Constituency and Public in General

20 April 2020

Congress of South African Students North West is saddened and disappointed by the ongoing factional tendencies which always leads to parallels after Conferences. We have noted the attack from the last National Conference of COSAS held at Magaliesburg from 21-23 February 2020, and we are unequivocally condemning this barbaric attacks on delegates because it leads to innocent learners getting physically hurt by hooliganism act.

It is also important to highlight that the National Conference had some challenges which we as a Province are not proud of, but will continue to fight and ensure that what took place does not happen again. Those who come after us cannot inherit a factional and divided COSAS.

Branches of COSAS who attended the National Conference at least managed to calm the situation and Conference proceeded after being tried to be collapsed by element of hooliganism, and we are proud to announce that as COSAS North West we managed to deliver President and three (3) additional members to the united 19th National Executive Committee.

As COSAS North West we also like to distance ourselves from the so called National Task Team (NTT) that appointed itself for their personal interests in the name of South African Students. We also note that scammers called Kagiso Kgabo and Kelebogile Motlhabi for sending themselves not by branches to represent North West in that NTT.

We also appreciate and welcome back Comrade Thabo Moroka to sober COSAS, and also thanking him to see that parallels in the Province compromise us a lot. Tshwarella ka natla Mokone, gonne di kgoga kgogano di busetsa mokgatlho wa baithuti kwa morago.

We also appeal to ANC and ANC Youth League leaders to stop interfering in the politics of COSAS and allow young people to exhaust their own internal politics. We are now requesting the ANC Youth League to thoroughly check the conduct of Cde Thandi Mahambehlala and reprimand her from using her position wrongly by entertaining political battles of COSAS, because this has an element of discouraging learners to join COSAS as they will feel like COSAS is just an organization of by day and by night is controlled by umbrella of PYA.

To that end, we would like to say that the only recognized and legitimate NEC structure of COSAS is led by;

1. President= Thabang Mokoena
2. Deputy President= Caroline Sakiele
3. Secretary General= Teboho Magafane
4. 1st DSG= Scelo Mandlazi
5. 2nd DSG= Xola Booi
6. Treasurer General= Abishel Ntshweng

As COSAS North West we stand and rally behind this 19th NEC, and we want to make it clear that this call of rallying behind them is being made by branches of COSAS in the Province. This is the leadership that we have put our trust in.

We further more call on our regions, branches and sub-branches to physically address anyone who come to our Province with the name of this scam called NTT, our Province is not a playground.

COSAS Western Cape
To all media houses

Statement of Congress of South African Students in the Western Cape on statements released by a self appointed NTT.

The Congress Of South African Students in the Western Cape has noted with shock and disturbance of the false, malicious and premature statements that are circulating and released by NTT and the noise that the so called NTT is making as they are seeking for recognition.

Following the attempt to hold the 19th National Congress that was held in Tshwane last year, during which 2 congresses were held (one officiated by comrade Malusi Gigaba as deployed by the ANC and the other one officiated by Zama Khanyase) which resulted 2 National Executive Committee, after the intervention of the ANC it was then decided to reconvene the 19th National Congress. On the 21st - 23rd February 2020, COSAS held it's 19th National Congress in Magalies Retreat Resort and elected the following 19th NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE :

1. President - Thabang Mokoena
2. Deputy president - Caroline Sakiele
3. Secretary general - Teboho Magafane
4. 1st Deputy secretary - Scelo Mandlazi
5. 2nd Deputy secretary - Xola Booi

As COSAS Western Cape we are deeply worried about these false statements that are being released on behalf of the organization as they have the potential of bringing the repute and good name of the organization into question.

We wish to reiterate that COSAS is not for sale and also not a playground of factionalist whom are leaders of the ANC. ANC leaders must solve their problems without involving us. We are not going to allow any leader of the ANC to import ANC politics into COSAS as that is a root of division of our movement.

It is on this score that the organization wishes to distance itself from all the false and malicious statements released on behalf of the organization and all interviews done by the so called NTT. Not all of us will lead, let's allow ourselves to be led.

We must allow the elected leadership as led by President Tabang Mokoena and Secretary General Teboho Magafane to lead.

We call for calm in these trying times of the organization and urge all learners to focus on online education during this lockdown.

After this Covid 19 We further call upon the NEC to start conducting provincial visits to strengthen efforts of uniting, rebuilding and rebranding the organization.

CONGRESS OF SOUTH AFRICAN STUDENTS WESTERN CAPE PROVINCE

NO EMERGO

1 AUGUST 2019

Congress Of South African Students in the Western Cape (COSAS) has always been in the forefront of championing the interest of all scholars in province.

We will continue to be the light of the poor.

Education is a fundamental human right and essential for the exercise of all other human rights. It promotes individual freedom and empowerment and yields essential development benefits. Yet millions of children and adults remain deprived of the right t basic education.

In line with discharging our duty to ensure universal access to basic education, and ensuring we progresively advocate for conditions permissible for teaching and learning, we must never be deterred nor shaken by all sorts of opportunistic and parasitic elements and tendencies that may sprout from a dearth of opportunity for fluid upward mobility from such forces.

As the current PTT that was appointed by the 18th NEC, we herein confirm that there was no "urgent" provincial conference in Western Cape nor any other sort of Provincial Conference of COSAS.

As disciplined members of the organisation without exception we must abide by the Constitution of COSAS and the Rules and Regulations, the Standing Orders and Codes of Conduct of the organisation. No one is bigger than the organisation.

We will continue with our daily struggles and responsibilities of the organization as the provincial task team. One of our biggest responsibility is to continue striving for dynamic, free, fair, quality and compulsory education for all.

COSAS Western Cape prioritize the following:

• Academic excellence
• Discipline
• Non- sexism
• Democracy
• Equity
• Redress
• Quality
• School Development
• Community work
• Leadership
• Non- racialism

We are going to continue advocating for change and addressing issues that affect us such as :

-The privatization of Education
-Corporal punishment
-Representative Council of Learners
-Matric results
-Drug abuse
-Drop outs
-Absenteeism
-Teenage pregnancy
-Depression
-Code of conduct of the school
-Progressed leaners
-Late Coming
-Sport in our school
-Gender base violence and femicide
-Sanitary towels for a girl child

We have also noted that NEC member (Tumelo) who maliciously and mischievously goes around and cause confusion. This is exactly the type of person that OR Tambo was talking about when he spoke about wedge drivers. We urge the NEC to discipline her as she is sowing division within the organisation, creating parallel structure and officiating a bogus Congress.

It is disgusting to see the pepetuation of hate against female leaders by male leaders, this in the context of growing femicide around the country. We would like to advise Cde Xola Booi to go and lay a charge at Human Rights and Gender Commission not forgetting SAPS for public insults and degrading her as a young woman. Chin up and continue serving the organisation with dignity and respect, in you we see a tried and tested leader, remain focus mbokodo!

COSAS is an organisation for students that must be led by students.

"History remembers those that were brave enough to leave their mark."
