DATE: 03 June 2026
SUBJECT:BURGLARY INCIDENT AT LEKWA-TEEMANE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY CHRISTIANA OFFICES
The Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality wishes to inform residents, stakeholders, and members of the public that the municipal offices were burglarized at approximately 02:00 this morning. During the incident, one of the security guards on duty sustained a gunshot wound and was immediately rushed for medical attention. The municipality wishes the injured security officer a speedy and full recovery.
Following the incident, the South African Police Service (SAPS) cordoned off the crime scene to conduct investigations and gather evidence. As a result, access to the municipal premises was restricted, leading to a temporary disruption of normal municipal operations.

Preliminary investigations reveal that only the FNB/Fidelity cash safe was targeted. The safe was allegedly cut open using a grinding tool, and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident and the value of the stolen cash remain the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
The municipality is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities and urges anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation to report it to the South African Police Service.
The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and assures the community that measures are being taken to strengthen security and safeguard municipal property, employees, and members of the public.
