MONDAY, 14 SEPTEMBER 2026

*Dear Residents and all stakeholders*

The Joe Gqabi District Municipality wishes to inform the community of Maletswai that a pipe burst has occurred at *Block H*.

This incident has necessitated the immediate shut-off of the water supply to allow the repair team to work safely.

As a result, the following areas will be affected:

- Dukathole Township
- Area 13
- Block A - H
- Vula-Vala

Our team will be working to fix the damage and restore the water supply as soon as possible.

Further updates will be shared as the work progresses.

The Joe Gqabi District Municipality Special Programmes Unit (SPU) convened a District AIDS Council (DAC) Meeting today at the Ekhephini Council Chambers, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen a coordinated response to HIV, AIDS, TB and related social challenges across the district.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from the Department of Correctional Services, Department of Social Development and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), alongside other relevant partners. The engagement provided an important platform for collaboration, information sharing and strengthening interventions aimed at addressing the challenges affecting communities.

Through the District AIDS Council, stakeholders continue to work collectively towards strengthening prevention, awareness, support and coordinated responses to HIV, AIDS and TB, while ensuring that communities remain at the centre of these efforts.

The Joe Gqabi District Municipality regrets to inform the Maletswai community that another pipe burst has occurred on the same water pipeline at *Block G*.

This repeated incident has necessitated the immediate shut-off of the water supply to allow the repair team to work safely.

As a result, the following areas are again affected:

- Dukathole Township
- Area 13
- Block A - H
- Vula-Vala

Our technical team is *seized with this challenge* and is working tirelessly to stabilise the system and restore the water supply as soon as possible.

The community of Ugie is hereby notified of an emergency main pipe burst in Boom Street. As a result, our clear water storage (Town reservoir) is running low.

Water supply for the following areas will be affected:

Town, Popcorn Valley, Prentjiesburg, and Bhodi

Water supply will be restored upon completion of repairs.
