THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T DO AT A SECURITY CHECKPOINT

1. Don’t speed towards a checkpoint.
2. Don’t make phone calls while approaching or being attended to.
3. Roll down your windows so officers can clearly see the interior of the vehicle.
4. Don’t keep your car stereo volume too loud.
5. Don’t keep the vehicle too dark at night; switch on the inner light when necessary.
6. Don’t loiter around the checkpoint unnecessarily.
7. Don’t drop waste or rubbish around the area.
8. Don’t make sudden movements or hide your hands.
9. Don’t argue aggressively with security personnel.
10. Don’t joke about weapons, bombs, or criminal activities.
11. Don’t attempt to bypass the checkpoint.
12. Avoid unnecessary phone use or distractions during security checks.
13. Don’t forget: checkpoints exist for public safety and crime prevention, not punishment.

The Federal Government has rolled out tougher measures to tackle drug and substance abuse in secondary schools, introducing compulsory drug testing for students and possible temporary suspension for those who repeatedly test positive even after undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.

As part of the new policy, all incoming students into secondary schools will be required to undergo mandatory drug screening during the admission process.

The directive is clear: every police officer must wear a visible name tag while on duty. This is not a suggestion; it is a code of conduct that defines transparency and responsibility in public service.

As rightly emphasized by IGP -DISU

“Every police officer must wear a name tag… Why are some of you hiding your names? What exactly are you afraid of? Or is there something you don’t want the public to know? A decent, responsible, and professional officer should wear the uniform with pride and accountability. So why act in a way that raises suspicion? The era of carelessness is over. Conduct yourself properly, because actions have consequences.”

This message is not just for the police—it is for you, the students, the observers, and the voices of society.

You now have a responsibility to stay informed, stay aware, and demand accountability. Any officer operating without proper identification is acting outside the expected standard. Your silence enables misconduct; your awareness enforces discipline.

Let this mark the beginning of a new culture—one where authority is not hidden behind anonymity, but carried with integrity.

Truth Is the Mother of Justice — And Truth Fears Nothing but Concealment

Truth is the mother of justice, and truth fears nothing—except being hidden.

What we have witnessed is not merely the death of a suspect; it is the attempted burial of truth itself. When a man is already restrained, already willing to speak, and yet is silenced permanently, the question is no longer what happened, but what was meant to be hidden.

Justice does not tremble at the sound of truth—it is born from it. Only falsehood and fear demand silence at the very moment truth is about to speak.

If indeed this was law enforcement, why was due process abandoned? Why was the opportunity for investigation, interrogation, and lawful prosecution abruptly cut short? A suspect alive is evidence. A suspect speaking is clarity. But a suspect eliminated is a question mark that no official statement can erase.

Truth does not fear exposure. Truth does not require bullets to defend itself. Truth stands, speaks, and withstands scrutiny. It is only when truth becomes inconvenient that it is hurriedly buried.

We must not ignore the troubling implications: Was there a narrative that could not be allowed to unfold? Were there names that must not be mentioned? Were there connections too dangerous to be revealed?

These are not reckless questions—they are necessary ones. Because whenever truth is silenced, justice is not just delayed; it is denied.

A system that eliminates suspects instead of extracting truth risks becoming complicit in the very crimes it claims to fight. Justice is not vengeance. Justice is process. Justice is transparency. Justice is truth, fully told.

Nigeria must not become a nation where silence is manufactured and accountability is optional. If we allow truth to be buried today, we dig the grave of justice for tomorrow.

Let it be clearly stated:
The demand is not for outrage, but for answers.
Not for assumptions, but for accountability.

Every officer involved must be identified. Every action must be scrutinized. Every deviation from lawful procedure must be addressed within the bounds of the law.

Because when truth is hidden, injustice thrives.
And when injustice thrives, no one is truly safe.

Justice must live—and it can only live where truth is allowed to speak.

Did you know that “PROVE” vs “PROOF” are not the same in Law?

Many people think they mean the same thing, but they don’t.

To prove is what you do.
Proof is what you show.

If you say someone owes you money, you must prove it by bringing evidence like receipts, messages, or witnesses. Those things you bring to court are your proof.

So in simple terms, proving is the effort you make, while proof is the evidence that supports you. This is why not every story wins in court. You may be right, you may even be telling the truth, but if you cannot prove it with solid proof, the law may not help you.

In court, it is not about who speaks well or who is more convincing.

It is about who can prove their case with proof.
Because in the eyes of the law, what you cannot prove is treated as if it never existed.
