The ANCWL Young Women’s Desk Greater Tshwane region proudly joined the 47th Commemoration of Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu.

The occasion was addressed by the Secretary-General of the ANC, Cde Fikile Mbalula, who delivered a powerful Memorial Lecture under the theme:“Solomon Mahlangu: A beacon for making a better life for all a lived reality, reclaiming lost ground and rebuilding public trust within the context of ANC renewal and rebuilding.”

Today, we honour and remember a fearless freedom fighter whose courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to justice continue to inspire generations. His legacy remains a guiding light in our ongoing pursuit of equality, dignity, and a better life for all.

Today, as the ANCWL Young Women’s Desk, we had the opportunity to deliver a message of support at a progressive programme of the ANCYL in Ward 92, with a keynote address by the ANC REC member and Head of International Relations, Cde Bafana Mbusi ka Mahlangu. Among others, the Deputy Chairperson of the Youth League in the region, Cde Mike Mahlomuza, and the Regional Treasurer of SASCO also delivered messages of support.
The programme focused on South Africa’s role in international politics and global governance.
As the Young Women’s Desk, we firmly believe that young people, especially young women, should be at the forefront of such conversations and make meaningful contributions.

STATEMENT BY THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS WOMEN'S LEAGUE YOUNG WOMENS DESK ON THE SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMME AT TSHWANE NORTH COLLEGE

11 February 2026

The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) YWD Coordinator, Cde Annie Caluza, together with the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) Deputy Regional Secretary, Cde Thotho Mngomezulu, and SASCO Deputy Regional Secretary, Cde Refiloe Ndlovu, today led a successful joint programme of action at Tshwane North College.

The day’s activities focused on three critical pillars: the SASCO membership recruitment drive, a sanitary towel donation campaign, and the facilitation of the online voter registration process. This integrated approach reflects our movement’s commitment to addressing both the material conditions and the political consciousness of young people.

Through the SASCO recruitment drive, we aim to ensure that every student at Tshwane North College is organised, active, and contributing to the progressive student movement. A strong SASCO means a strong voice for students and a reliable pipeline for the renewal of the ANC.

Simultaneously, we conducted a sanitary towels drive, donating much-needed sanitary products to students. This intervention is part of the ANCWL’s ongoing commitment to restoring the dignity of young women and girl children. No student should miss class because they cannot afford sanitary towels. Our movement will continue to bridge the gap between policy and practical, grassroots solidarity.

Furthermore, we oversaw the online voter registration process to guarantee that all eligible young people in the campus are registered to exercise their democratic right in the upcoming local government elections. The ANC is the only organisation capable of leading developmental local government, and it is imperative that our young people are active participants in choosing leaders who will serve their communities.

We commend the students of Tshwane North College for their enthusiastic reception and their willingness to organise. The ANC, its Leagues, and its student command structures remain united in the mission to build a better life for all.

Tshwane Young Women will join the January 8 mobilisation dressed in all black with a doek, symbolising dignity, unity and reflection. This is a powerful expression of solidarity with women and children who continue to endure violence, poverty and social injustice, and a reminder that their pain must never be normalised or ignored. 🖤💚💛 We wear black to honour resilience, to mourn the lives lost to gender-based violence, and to demand urgent action for safe communities, economic justice and a future where every child is protected. Our presence is a call to conscience and a commitment to action. Enough is enough. The time for change is now. ✊🏾🖤
