Going to the protest today?

Good.

We need as many people there as possible, united in our stance that we aren't being represented and we need change NOW.

When you go, be safe and enjoy the time spent with like-minded people. But while you bond, please consider doing at least one additional thing to support democracy.

Get ballot petitions signed for your local candidates. Encourage voters to check their registration, and enroll in Vote By Mail. Share information about joining local organizations. FORM organizations with the people you meet if there aren't local ones that you know of.

Be kind. Be passionate but considerate of those around you. Be strong. Our country needs us.

And be proud. When history looks back on this time, there are people who will have proven to be weak. To be cruel. To be selfish.

But not you.

Thank you.

If you are at the Ocala location, please look for Jeani and Martin. We will have some petition clipboards and need signatures. (There is at least one new candidate so you can at least sign that one!)

There will also be a booth (Thank you Democratic Women's Club of Marion County) at the Marion County Day event at the McPherson Complex (near the tag office) with another collection of clipboards!

We had two amazing victories in Florida last night and we need to celebrate!

But we also need to look at how close these last three Florida wins were and get ready to work work work. No one can do everything, but EVERYONE can do something.

What can you do to help?

Doorknocking is the most impactful and effective and there are ways to help with it WITHOUT being one of the doorknockers.
- Help recruit volunteers
- Set up and manage a launch location
- Help train people on using the technology and best practices
- DRIVE/NAVIGATE for a group
- Donate gas funds to help those with less resources be able to do more!

Phonebanking and tabling are probably tied for the next most effective! Not comfortable talking with people? You can offer to help with set up and break down. You can help transport supplies. You can run for water/supplies to help the talkers.

Postcarding helps, when targeted properly. There are people that are so far away from other voters that it is hard to cover them with doorknocking. There are people that never answer the phone. There are people that benefit from having the information in writing! And pretty much any campaign will be sending out mailers IF THEY HAVE THE FUNDS so you can offer to help cover postage costs OR find sponsors to donate (which can be more valuable than donating on your own!)

Sign waving, particularly at polling locations, is one of the least effective ways (yell at the studies that have confirmed this, not at me). But if it is done in addition to other activities or strategically it DOES still help. How to make sign waving help:

- Do it ahead of the early voting period, and make sure the sign is EASY to read and provides access to get more information
- Do it in high visibility and high volume areas - Stay safe but making sure you have a sign where it will be seen by thousands rather than dozens matters
- Do it where you will reach the right crowd - the reason why we use TARGETED lists for doorknocking, phonebanking, and texting is because we don't want to mobilize the other side!! So go places where you are likely to meet people who want change, not the people who want more Trump and buddies!

DONATE
Even just an average of a dollar a week more than you might have done can really add up over several months. Most donations come in AFTER primaries and while that is understandable a donation one month before an election is far less helpful than a donation early on which could be used to help pay staffers or recruit volunteers. If you do prefer to make donations after a primary, please make that donation as quickly as possible after the outcome is announced.

Donations of TIME and ENERGY are sometimes more valuable than donations of MONEY, but they are all necessary for candidates and organizations. Figure out what is feasible for you, and know that what you did above and beyond your usual MATTERED.

We would like to have a presence at both the protest AND Marion County Day. If you are attending one or both, and willing to help gather ballot petition signatures to help candidates over the finish line and to help level the playing field so that people don't need to be rich to run, please let us know!

While we are all very focused on the upcoming midterms, we would like to take this moment to not only endorse three candidates in Special Elections next week... But to ask you to please speak with your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors about this importance of showing up to vote on Tuesday, March 24, if you are a registered voter in the districts impacted. (Technically ALL of Florida is impacted!)

If you are in HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, POLK COUNTY, or PALM BEACH COUNTY - please check if you are in the districts of Brian Nathan For Florida, Emily Gregory for State House, and Edwin Perez for the Florida House of Representatives in District 51.

Your vote, and encouragement of others to vote could mean critical changes before the special sessions regarding budget and redistricting!

The SAVE Act will not “save” our elections because it is built on a foundation of lies and conspiracy theories ❌

Anti-voter politicians want you to believe that the provisions in the SAVE Act would stop non-citizens from voting in our elections. The truth? Our elections are already safe. States have systems in place to verify the citizenship of voters, and “non-citizen voting” is vanishingly rare and has no impact on our elections.

These conspiracy theories hurt eligible voters and those who administer our elections. The SAVE Act would require Americans to show either a passport or birth certificate IN PERSON to register to vote. 21 million American citizens don’t have either of these documents readily available, and this would effectively eliminate mail and online voter registration. These policies would especially impact communities of color, low-income people, people with disabilities, women, rural Americans, and other marginalized communities. The SAVE Act also creates significant and burdensome new administrative requirements for election officials, while opening them up to criminal liability for doing their job.

We need to stop the lies. Contact your members of Congress today and tell them to vote NO on the SAVE Act 👇
