In a few minutes I will vote against H.R. 9, one of the most fiscally irresponsible, flagrantly hypocritical bills the House GOP has brought to the floor this Congress. This one-time, unpaid-for bill will add $46 billion to our deficit and does not give small businesses the long-term relief they need.

Yesterday House Republican leadership put partisan politics before the American people when they refused to allow a vote on the bipartisan tax extenders bill. This bill passed the Senate 89-10 with overwhelming bipartisan support, including 39 Republican Senators, and would have passed the House if the GOP had allowed it to come to the floor. Instead, middle class families in Western North Carolina and across the country who are already struggling to make ends meet will see their taxes increase because of the GOP's refusal to compromise.
