Osun Gov’t Begins Compensation Payments to Residents Affected by Iwo Township Road Dualisation

Residents of Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State whose properties were affected by the first phase of the Iwo township road dualisation project have started receiving financial compensation from the state government.

The construction cuts across the Iwo Central Business District, beginning from Odo-Ori Market to Oja-Ale with a spur to the Oluwo Palace and then end at Post Office.

This project is considered critical to the local economy and central to the Ademola Adeleke Administration’s drive to expand infrastructure and accessibility across the state.

According to Dr. B.T. Salam, the commissioner for special duties who led a government delegation from the ministries works and land and physical planning to mark the commencement of the payments on Tuesday, each property affected by the project had been evaluated and their owner would be paid accordingly. “This government appreciates the sacrifices these people have paid for the overall benefits of our community. Before the construction started, we assured them that they would be duly compensated and we are glad that they trusted us to fulfill our promise,” said the commissioner. “It is evident that the work has been progressing steadily. We acknowledge some discomfort people are facing, particularly with dusts and I can confirm to you that the contractor has been directed to mitigate this by wetting the road regularly. We urge you to keep faith in this administration as we work within the limited resources to make life abundant for all. “The second phase will commence soon and we will follow the same template and lessons learned from the ongoing phase. We are immensely grateful to Oba Abdul Rasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland for his dynamic leadership that complements the work of Mr. Governor. Long may you reign, sir.”

In his remarks, the Director of Highways, Engr. Moruf Ojebode assured residents and stakeholders that the quality of work on the road remains uncompromised, stressing that all construction activities are being executed strictly in line with approved engineering standards and specifications. He noted that the contractor is working diligently to meet the project timeline, adding that, barring unforeseen circumstances, the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by March this year.

Playing host to the delegation, the Oluwo commended the governor for not disappointing him and the people. Notably, the monarch recalled interfacing with the community residents and assuring them that the governor had given him his words about compensating them in due course. “I feel proud that this project is on course and His Excellency’s determination to see it through on record time is reassuring. I am also proud of my people for giving their maximum support despite the pain. I will always be their advocate and promoter of this great community,” Oluwo said. “Convey my message to His Excellency that the people of Iwo are happy to partner with his government and will always support interventions targeted at their well beingand collective growth.”
