ENUGU EAST LGA BENEFITS FROM STATE GOVERNMENT FERTILIZER DISTRIBUTION AS MBAH ADMINISTRATION PUSHES FOR FOOD SECURITY

The Enugu State Government, through the FADAMA Coordination Office, has flagged off the distribution of fertilizers and other farm inputs to farmers in three political wards of Enugu East Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen the state’s economy.

The flag-off ceremony was carried out on Friday the 4th of September, 2026, at the Local Government Council Headquarters Nkwo Nike by Engr. Pastor Beloved Dan Anike, the Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government, who was represented at the event by Hon. Okey Okwor, Supervisor for Agriculture, Enugu East Local Government.

Others in attendance included Mrs. Felicia N. Eya, H.O.D., Agric Department; Hon. Nelson Okoh, Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman on Agric Business & Farm Estate; Mr. Geoffrey Ndubuisi Ezeh, Enugu State Programme Coordinator of FADAMA; Mr. Gospel, Coordinator, Enugu State Digital Transformation; and Hon. James Ugwu, Enugu East Local Government FADAMA Facilitator.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Agric Business, Hon. Okoh, said the distribution represents a continuation of earlier interventions already carried out in some wards and communities across the LGA.

He noted that more farmers in Enugu East are now set to benefit from the support, which is aimed at improving crop yields during the current planting season.

He attributed the initiative to the agricultural vision of the Enugu State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, adding that the administration is deliberate in its efforts to empower farmers, increase agricultural production, enhance food security, and drive the state’s economic growth.

“The goal of His Excellency is clear: to empower our farmers, boost production, and ensure that Enugu State becomes a leading hub for agribusiness. These inputs will help our people produce more, earn more, and contribute meaningfully to the economy,” Hon. Okoh stated.

The FADAMA Facilitator, Hon. James Ugwu, said the distribution targets smallholder farmers and is designed to reduce production costs while improving output and income levels at the grassroots.

Beneficiary farmers expressed their appreciation to the state government and the council, saying the timely intervention will help them expand cultivation and improve their yields.

The distribution exercise is expected to continue across other wards in Enugu East LGA in the coming days.

ENGR. BELOVED-DAN OBI-ANIKE ADVOCATES STRONGER INSTITUTIONS, STRICT ADHERENCE TO ENGINEERING PRACTICE ACT

The 2026 Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting has commenced with a strong call for professionalism, institutional integrity and strict adherence to established engineering standards.

Delivering his remarks at the conference, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike emphasised the urgent need to strengthen regulatory institutions and ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Engineering Practice Act across all levels of government and the private sector.

Speaking on the theme, “The Engineering Practice Act: Safeguarding Professionalism Against Political Influence/Decision,” Engr. Beloved-Dan Anike stressed that the integrity of Nigeria’s infrastructure and the safety of its citizens depend significantly on engineers being allowed to discharge their professional responsibilities without undue political interference.

Strengthening Regulatory Institutions

Engr. Anike called on the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and other relevant professional and regulatory institutions to live up to their responsibilities and be adequately empowered and protected from undue political pressure.

“Strong institutions are the backbone of quality engineering. When institutions are weak, standards collapse,” he said.

Strict Compliance with the Engineering Practice Act

He further urged government agencies, contractors and other stakeholders to strictly observe the provisions of the Engineering Practice Act, particularly those requiring qualified and registered engineers to undertake appropriate design, supervision and certification responsibilities on engineering projects.

He cautioned against compromising professional standards through the engagement of unqualified personnel and other practices that could undermine the quality and safety of infrastructure.

According to him, the consequences of cutting corners in engineering can be severe, contributing to incidents such as building failures, poorly executed roads and other infrastructure challenges.

Engineers Must Uphold Professional Ethics

The Enugu East Council Chairman also charged engineers to remain committed to professional ethics, continuous learning and excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He urged professionals to speak up against malpractice and practices that undermine engineering standards, stressing that engineers have a broader responsibility to society.

“We must be the conscience of development. Our duty is to the people and to posterity,” he said.

The conference and AGM featured technical sessions, professional engagements and policy dialogues focused on strengthening engineering practice and advancing the profession in Nigeria.

Engr. Obi-Anike’s participation at the conference further reflects his continued advocacy for professional excellence, institutional accountability and adherence to standards as essential pillars of sustainable development and public safety.
