𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬

Every DeMolay knows the story behind the Friday the 13th and memorized the last words of Grand Master Jacques de Molay while he was being burned at the stake at Haute Saone, France.

October 13, 1307 - King Philip the Fair and Pope Clement authorized the order to arrest the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ or what we know as the Knights Templars and accused them of Heresy. The real reason? Greed.

1314 - The Curse of Jacques DeMolay.
He had been heard cursing King Philip and his family along with Pope Clement V. As he experienced the agony of being! burned alive Molay is said to have invoked a ‘curse’ calling to Christ to prove the Order’s innocence and bring its persecutors to the judgement of God.

Both King Philip the Fair and Pope Clement V died later that year.
Pope Clement V died just thirty-three days after Molay’s ex*****on. Seven months later King Philip himself became gravely ill and unexpectedly passed away on the 29th of November.

Jacques DeMolay died with his fellow knights by burning at the stakes on March 18, 1314.

Looking back at some remarkable moments from January 2026!

📌 𝐎𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟏, we had the honor of visiting the 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫, 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨. 𝟐𝟖, at the Agusan Valley Masonic Lodge No. 160, where 𝐌𝐨𝐦 𝐉𝐨𝐲𝐜𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐚 was installed as Worthy Matron and 𝐃𝐚𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐚 as Worthy Patron. Their dedication reminded us that true leadership is rooted in service, heart, and inspiring others by example.

📌 Just a few days later, on 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟒, we joined the installation of our sponsoring body, 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐨𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟔𝟎 𝐅 & 𝐀𝐌, at the Balanghai Hotel Convention, Butuan, where 𝐖𝐌 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐄. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐳 took the oriental chair. Milestones like this strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and motivate us to continue building a legacy of unity and fellowship as exemplified by our Dad Masons.

📌 𝐎𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 our Master also ventured to 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐏. 𝐑𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟏𝟎 as Installing Senior Deacon, witnessing the installation of 𝐁𝐫𝐨. 𝐖𝐲𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮 𝐀. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚. Since the 2nd Installation of Officers, MC has dedicated service to Jose P. Rizal Chapter, developing camaraderie with its charter members as true service grows through commitment over time, nurturing friendships, trust, and a shared vision for the chapter’s future.

📌 𝐎𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟖, the brethren of Agusan Valley Chapter No. 19 came together for the 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 of Bro. Abelard S. Medado at Raniel Funeral Homes, Butuan, honoring the life of a dedicated brother.

From installations to heartfelt farewells, January was truly a month of fellowship, service, and remembrance.

Honored to witness the Masonic Installation of 𝐀𝐩𝐨 𝐊𝐚𝐡𝐨𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐨𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟔𝟔 held at Eastland Hotel, Gingoog City last March 7, 2026.

Hazing is prohibited under R.A. 8049, as amended by R.A. No. 11053. The elements of the crime of hazing are the following: (1) That there is an initiation rite or practice made as a pre-requisite for admission or a requirement for continuing membership in a fraternity, sorority, or organization; and (2) That during the initiation rite or practice, physical or psychological suffering, harm, or injury is inflicted on a recruit, neophyte, applicant, or member of the fraternity, sorority, or organization.

The members of Dasmariñas Chapter Order Of DeMolay No. 92 fully support the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018. Under the 14 Codes of Ethics, a DeMolay shall always bear the reputation of a good and law-abiding citizen. We obey and respect the laws of our cities, provinces, and nations. It is against the virtues and codes of ethics of a DeMolay to commit and tolerate any form of hazing.

Hazing is not a requirement for admission to our Order. One's desire to belong to a group does not give us the license to injure or cause death to another. Therefore, any form of hazing shall be absolutely prohibited by our Order.

No one has the right to inflict physical or psychological suffering, harm, or injury under the guise of showing brotherly love upon another. These despicable or inhumane traditions or rituals must come to an end. Those who do not tolerate and commit these brazen acts shall not be considered cowards, shameful, and disobedient. They shall be seen as virtuous, strong, and heroic.

Throughout the month of March, we proudly observe DeMolay Month — a time of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to the timeless foundation of our Order.

Founded on March 18, 1919 by Frank S. Land in Kansas City, the Order of DeMolay continues to shape young men into better leaders, better sons, and better citizens. We honor the martyrdom and unwavering loyalty of our namesake, Jacques de Molay, whose courage and fidelity remain the inspiration of our brotherhood.

This sacred observance calls each of us to live out our Seven Cardinal Virtues and uphold our Code of Ethics — to give honor to our parents, bring pride to our friends, and merit the commendation of all good men.

For God. For Country. For DeMolay.

March is DeMolay Month, a time dedicated to honoring the legacy and ideals of the Order of DeMolay, an international fraternity of young leaders and better men, of which we are proud members. Our beloved Order was founded in 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, by the late Dad Frank Sherman Land.

As we celebrate throughout this month, let us prepare our hearts and strengthen our commitment as we approach the 107th Founding Anniversary of the Order of DeMolay. May we continue to live by its teachings and uphold the true spirit of brotherhood and service.

The DeMolays of Agusan Valley Chapter proudly attended the 33rd Public Installation of Elected and Appointed Lodge Officers for Masonic Year 2026 last February 14, 2026 held at Watergate Pavilion, Butuan City.

We warmly congratulate Dad Ervin P. Salang on his installation as Worshipful Master and the Elected and Appointment Lodge Officers of 𝐁𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐨𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐍𝐨. 𝟐𝟗𝟗. Thank you for your steadfast support to our valentines day special fundraiser and for continually guiding the youth with true Masonic leadership.

Adding pride to the occasion, our Master Councilor was once again installed as the 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐰 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐍𝐨. 𝟐𝟎, a testament to the enduring bond and mutual support between our Chapter and the Assembly.

Actively participated in the commemoration of the 𝟏𝟐𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐏. 𝐑𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐥'𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐦 this 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟑𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, at Guingona Park, Butuan City.

The program was led by Dad City Mayor Atty. Lawrence Lemuel H. Fortun, alongside Vice Mayor Hon. Reynante B. Desiata, and was attended by local government officials, uniformed personnel, and partner organizations.

The participation of Dad Masons, DeMolays, Rainbows, and the Eastern Star reflected their shared commitment to patriotism, civic responsibility, and community involvement.
The activity served as a solemn reminder of Dr. Jose Rizal’s enduring legacy and inspired the youth and brethren alike to continue upholding the values of nationalism, integrity, and service to country that he stood for.

This momentous occasion reflects the Chapter’s continuous growth, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of DeMolay.
