The team provided guidance to learners on university applications and career choices. The visit was also graced by our KZN SADTU student chapter Provincial Coordinator, Nhlanhla Ngcobo , who showed support for the initiative. 🙌

The SADTU Students Chapter proudly reports the success of its WEYN Campaign, which focused on addressing critical challenges affecting students.
During the campaign, the Chapter intervened to assist students experiencing financial aid clearance issues, ensuring that deserving students were not excluded from registration due to administrative delays. The leadership also engaged with the relevant department regarding the restructuring of modules that are no longer aligned with the evolving needs of educators. This discussion aims to ensure that academic programmes remain relevant, practical, and responsive to the demands of the education sector.
In addition, the Chapter strongly advocated for an increase in the intake of FTENs (First Time Entering Students) for the current academic year. This proposal seeks to reduce unnecessary gap years for prospective students and improve access to higher education opportunities.
The Branch Coordinating Committee (BCC), led by Coordinator Minenhle Zulu and Convenor Innocent Ntibana, further acknowledges and welcomes the decision by Admissions to implement online late applications through the DUT People’s Soft system. This follows a submission made by SADTUSC delegates during the last Lekgotla.
This decision is a significant breakthrough, as it is expected to improve students’ chances of enrolment compared to the previous system of applying through the CAO website, which has often been questioned as a middleman in the application process. Technical challenges on the CAO platform have at times negatively impacted students, making this new development a positive and student-centred intervention.
The SADTU Students Chapter remains committed to advocating for student rights, improving access to education, and ensuring that institutional processes serve the best interests of the students

*SADTUSC Official Statement on Misuse of SADTU Regalia in SRC Campaigns*

To: Members of SADTUSC DUT Indumiso Branch, Leaders from the PYA, and the Student Populace

Revolutionary greetings are extended to you all.

The SADTU Student Chapter (SADTUSC) at DUT wishes to clarify its position regarding the ongoing issue surrounding the portfolio of Organisations and Accommodation in the upcoming SRC elections.

It has come to our attention that Mr. Lwazi Nyide was seen wearing SADTU regalia during candidate photoshoots, and that a poster circulated on social media has understandably raised questions about the involvement of SADTUSC and our mother body, SADTU, in the SRC elections.

We want to categorically state that SADTUSC distances itself from these actions. SADTUSC does not contest SRC elections, but we dedicate our support to SASCO in these campaigns. Let it be clear that we operate within the framework of the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) and if our comrades are to deployed in the SRC, they shall be nominated and supported in the BGM of SASCO.

*For clarity:*

- Comrade Lwazi is not a student teacher, nor is he enrolled in the B.Ed programme.

- The SADTU T-shirt in question was received during an RTGM where he was deployed to deliver a message of support on behalf of COSAS KZN as a Provincial Task Team member at the time.

- He has since explained that the use of the image was a mistake, stating that he had previously suppressed the older poster but that the wrong version was reposted in error by his media team.

While we accept his explanation in good faith, we must underline a key principle, SADTU regalia is the property of the Union and is not to be used to advance personal or factional political campaigns. Our regalia represents the collective struggles of teachers and student teachers, not individual ambitions. Misuse, even by mistake, undermines organisational discipline and confuses our constituency.
We also reaffirm the PYA resolution, the students must rally behind and vote for SASCO in all portfolios, including the Organisations and Accommodation portfolio.

We call on all students to reject opportunism, whether intentional or accidental, and to stand with leadership that embodies integrity, discipline, and accountability. SADTUSC remains committed to building principled teacher leadership rooted in service to the people.

SADTUSC DUT INDUMISO BRANCH STATEMENT
ON SUPPORT FOR SASCO SRC CANDIDATES (2025/27)

The SADTU Student Chapter (SADTUSC) at DUT Indumiso Branch urges all B.Ed students and the entire student body, to rally behind and cast their votes for the 7 SASCO candidates contesting the upcoming SRC elections from 16–19 September 2025.

Among these candidates, we are proud to recognize our very own comrades:

• Cde Samkelo Hlubi – former Branch Coordinator
• Cde Sanele Mathe – current Branch Residence Officer and
• Cde Amahle Tshayela – current Deputy Branch Coordinator.

This is clear evidence that student teachers are directly represented on the SRC list, ensuring that our specific challenges within the Department of Education and beyond will be voiced and addressed by leaders who understand our realities.

We therefore call on all student teachers and the broader student community to unite and vote for the full SASCO collective of seven candidates as they represent progressive, accountable and student-centered leadership.
