Lafayette's Energy Future -No 2A and Yes 301 We are Lafayette's Energy Future ( LafEnergy.org ), a grassroots Issue Committee in Lafayette, CO. Vote Yes on 301 and No on 2A!

We want a more sustainable energy future, and it seems to us that our monopoly utility, Xcel Energy, does not take this seriously. We want to give Lafayette citizens a choice on energy direction - the status quo with Xcel Energy, heavy on the coal, or a more sustainable energy path based on more renewable energy and energy efficiency. So we are encouraging Lafayette voters to say "NO" to another 2

0-year franchise agreement with Xcel (NO on 2A!) in order to send a message that we want more clean energy and energy efficiency programs in Lafayette! We gathered signatures to get a replacement for the franchise fee on the ballot. The Utility Occupation Tax (UOT) (YES on 301!) will be collected the same way the franchise fee is currently collected, and will be the same amount in year 1. The franchise fee currently goes to Lafayette's General Fund, but UOT funds will be dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency; these INVESTMENTS will pay the city back over time! The UOT will ONLY be collected if the franchise fee is not. We are standing up and telling this powerful utility that the future of this planet is for all of us, and if they won't get serious about cutting carbon emissions, we'll start doing it for them!

Folks hold on hold on! The yes to no vote gap for 301 began closing late this morning and just after noon it flipped…here's the count! Wow! Wow! Wow!

Hi Friends of Lafayette,

I’m your neighbor, Donna Roe Daniell, and I live in Lafayette. I love Lafayette because it’s away from the intensity and traffic of Boulder.
As a Climate Reality Project Leader I have learned that we can no longer ignore the warnings of scientists to correct the course of global warming and save our planet. We have to take action now.
You can help us change this reality.
There are solutions to this problem. Here’s the first step to move away from our dependence on coal and gas to wind, solar and improved energy efficiency.
• Vote NO on Ballot Measure 2A. Excel Energy’s 20 year franchise with the City of Lafayette has to be renegotiated. I ask you to send Excel our mandate that coal burning electrical plants are no longer acceptable and decrease CO2 emissions into our atmosphere.
•Next, Vote Yes on 301. The utility occupation tax replaces the existing franchise fee you pay on your utility bill. These earmarked funds are specifically to be used for clean and renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency. And it doesn’t cost you thing.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to take action towards climate change this November!!
Please, Vote YES on 301 and NO on 2A!

Vote Yes on 301 and No on 2a for Lafayette to become a city where clean and renewable energy and energy efficiency is a priority. Our grass roots campaign is a citizen initiative with a goal to reduce the city's carbon foot print to reduce our effect on climate change and become an example for other city in an effort to do the same.
