1 RSME Regiment "This is the official page for 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment, a training establishment of the British Army"

Located at Brompton Barracks, Chatham, the Home of the Corps of Royal Engineers, 1 Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment (1 RSME Regt) provides artisan engineer training to the Corps of Royal Engineers and the wider Field Army. There are over 15 different trades available to soldiers who pass through 1 RSME Regt on their Class 1 and 2 courses. On completion of their Initial Trade Training

(Combat Engineer training) Sappers commence their Subsequent Trade Training courses in Chatham. Some will come to us having spent time with their units, others will come direct. For most trades, this will mean attending bespoke construction and engineering training. Course lengths vary and can last up to 53 weeks at the end of which new Sappers will move to their first Regiment, or for the more time-served Sappers, redeployed back into the Field Army.

1 RSME Regt comprises of a Regimental Headquarters; and 24 and 36 Training Squadrons. Each Squadron consists of trade specific troops, all providing soldier support and the military backbone to the Regiment. There are eight Troops within 1 RSME Regt.

1 RSME Regt and Chatham Station is furnished with some of the best and most technically advanced sporting and leisure facilities. The Regiment seeks to expand and deliver innovative and challenging extra curricular activities. It strongly encourages trainees and civilian staff alike to participate in sporting and adventurous training when possible, enhancing their own personal training opportunities.

Friday 10 September 2021 marks ***dePreventionDay. There's no right or wrong way to start a conversation about su***de. If you are concerned about anyone, offer them the opportunity to talk about their feelings and help raise awareness of mental health. It's ok not to be ok.

Ahead of World Su***de Prevention Day tomorrow, we wanted to share some thoughts. It is important to know that often people hold back from getting the help they need due to the stigma these myths perpetuate.

For example, a person who feels suicidal might remain silent through the fear it means they have a mental illness (or that others might believe they do). With this mindset, they might think it best to keep quiet or else they might lose their job, their partner, or people might treat them differently. Understanding and debunking myths surrounding su***de is a crucial step in breaking the stigma.

The quality of our health is linked to our connection with others. Preventing su***de is a group effort, it requires the efforts of many. It takes community members, teachers, family, friends, co-workers, religious leaders, and healthcare professionals. Overall we are stronger together.

And if you are in need of urgent help, please do reach out. You never have to struggle alone. We understand things might seem hopeless now, and there are people waiting to support and listen to you whenever you feel ready.
