HUGE INVESTMENT COMING FOR OUR PLAY PARKS IN ALKRINGTON EAST, MOORCLOSE & JUNCTION

Your East Middleton Labour Councillors have secured much needed funding to add additional play ground equipment to all 3 play parks in the East Middleton Ward. This was a local election pledge we made to you in 2024, and we intend to deliver it.

This is what local families have been telling us they would like to see. Cllr Terry Smith and I were pleased to sign off the funding this week.

So what are the parks getting?

The Downs- multi use toddler climbing frame with slide. This adds to the existing see saw, swings and benches.

King George V- Double Toddler Swings, Double Junior Swings and a junior slide. This adds to the existing Playzone, toddler climbing frame, two junior climbing frames, monkey nets, basket swing, benches and zip wire swing.

Kirkway Stocks (Sandy Park)- Double Junior Swings and a junior slide. This adds to the existing toddler and junior climbing frames, outdoor gym, benches and basket swing.

We hope for work to start later this year. This is a huge win for us.

The work will also include much needed resurfacing in the parks and disabled access improvements!

Me and Cllr Terry Smith did a Councillor Street Surgery this morning in Moorclose on Oakdene Road, Larchview Road and Elm Bank Road, East Middleton Ward with help of our candidate Georgina Jacques and Terry’s wife Sue Smith who is also Cabinet Member for Communities, asking residents if they had any local issues and if they will be supporting us in May. Thank you for a fantastic response on the doorstep about what we are doing locally!

It was great to talk about what we are doing on King George’s Park. Following the CCTV, lighting and landscaping improvements, and the new Playzone. We have recently secured funding to bring the old pavilion buildings back into use which are currently being worked on. We intend this to be used to work in partnership with Rochdale AFC community trust for them to deliver football training and football coaching and youth activities on the Playzone for local kids.

We also plan to improve both the junior and toddler play grounds later this year, with new slides, swings and rockers.
