The NBI-CAR Medico-Legal Division and Forensic Chemistry Division takes the time to ground our University of the Cordilleras Criminology Interns in the absolute essentials of basic forensics. Our experts broke down how vital physical and medical evidence is to building an airtight case, giving these future investigators a massive head start in their careers.

Kudos to the interns for asking the right questions and showing the passion needed for this field.

For walking the long miles of nine months to the labor room without any hands that massaged your hips and shoulder..

The NBI Medico-Legal Division successfully concluded the Forensic Summit 2026 held in Harolds Hotel in Quezon City.

From April 20–24, experts gathered under the theme: "New Frontiers and Emerging Trends in Forensic Medicine; Advancing Justice Through Science".

It was an incredible week of knowledge-sharing and professional growth aimed at strengthening the pillars of justice through scientific excellence.

Summit Highlights included:
• Distinguished Leadership: The event was opened by Atty. Al Anthony M. Chua, MD, Acting Chief of the MLD, and featured a special message from NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag.

• Expert Keynotes: We were honored to hear from Dr. Maria Rosario S. Vergeire on Public Health and Dr. Nick Dempsey from Monash University on Forensic Anthropology.

• Comprehensive Sessions: The program covered vital specialized fields, including Forensic Odontology, Disaster Victim Identification (DVID), DNA Division, Ballistics, Question Document, Polygraph and Dactyloscopy.

• Practical Application: Participants engaged in "Interesting Case" presentations from various regions and two of our Junior Medico-Legal Officers engaged in a rigorous Moot Court session on Day 4.

• Collaborative Spirit: The summit kicked off with a welcome dinner and ended in socials, fostering a strong community among NBI forensic doctors.

Thank you to all our guest speakers, especially Atty. Jessie Hermogenes T. Andres from the Office of the President and Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Hazel C. Decena-Valdez, for their invaluable contributions.

As we look back on these five productive days, we remain committed to the "New Frontiers" of forensic science. Looking forward to the next one!
