Hunger as a political weapon.
The Trump administration announced it will not use USDA reserves to fund SNAP benefits, leaving 42 million Americans, including children, seniors, and working families, without food assistance starting November 1.
This move breaks the USDA’s own policy plan and violates federal ethics law by turning hunger into a partisan talking point.

As Heather Cox Richardson reminds us, food assistance began during the New Deal as a bridge between farmers and the hungry, a symbol of shared responsibility.
Now, the administration finds $20 billion for foreign allies but claims it can’t find $8 billion to feed Americans.
What are we doing here?
