Meet our Natural Resources Specialist, Leanna! Tracing her lineage to the Toi Ticutta Paiute as well as the Yomba and Te-Moak Western Shoshone, Leanna Hale is an officially enrolled member of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe. Her upbringing on her family’s reservation ranch and farm established a lifelong connection to the land, a commitment she maintains by producing livestock forage for local agriculturalists and the California commercial market.
Leanna remains actively involved in protecting the Numa Teepu ancestral land, water, sacred sites, language, and culture through her service on the Tribe’s Cultural Commission. She actively participates on the Nevada Water Resources Association’s Annual Conference Planning Committee and has developed training sessions focused on tribal water which have included panels with Tribal leaders and Native producers sharing information on Tribal water rights, agriculture, lakes, and wetlands. Leanna’s dedication to scholarly collaboration persists through her engagement in ongoing research initiatives.
She presently contributes her expertise to the Great Basin Tribal Forum on Low-Carbon Energy, Mining, and Water, where she serves on the Tribal Advisory Committee alongside distinguished faculty from Boise State University and the University of California, Davis.
