Senator Babajide Omoworare from Osun East (Ife/Ijesa) has said the days of endless tears over deprivations by the people are gone forever in Osun State.

The lawyer-turned-politician who praised the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, over the spate of development in the state under his leadership, stated that Osun people had seen the difference between light and darkness.

Speaking during the annual week celebration of the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) in Osogbo, in a paper entitled: “Sustainable Infrastructural Development and the Future of the State of Osun,” Omoworare said if the previous administrations had embraced infrastructural development, the state would have been on the fast-track of advancement.

“Every aspect of the state is experiencing revolutionary transformations that had long been described as impossible. These radical transformations are not products of magic; they are works of a willing and prepared mind that is there to raise the bar, by giving standard of living its real meaning. I make bold to say that Osun is now a construction site for different laudable and sustainable infrastructural projects that had been long overdue,” said Omoworare.

Maintaining that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) had redefined governance and democracy with its people-oriented manifestoes, the Senator said no government of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest had done tremendously well like the present governors on the platform of ACN. “May we never witness a return to the dark days of lazy governance and share-the-money syndrome. A simple ‘amen’ will not do it, our votes and continuous support for the ACN is the guarantee,” he said.

He said, while Nigeria is trying to grapple with development due to deficiency of past leaders, the governor was busy working to make the state self-sustaining with the exploration of its agricultural capacity, human resources and other natural elements, to drive its economy. “Replication of the Osun model without ego as done with the adoption of O’Yes template by the FG to drive its youth employment concern will go a long way in giving Nigeria the needed push to a desirable development level,” the senator said.

Osun Assembly Suspends Ifedayo Executive Secretary

The State of Osun House of Assembly has suspended the Executive Secretary of Ifedayo Local Government, Mr Kunle Ayantoye, for his failure to swear in other Caretaker Committee members earlier confirmed by the House.

Ayantoye was suspended three days after his inauguration by the State deputy governor, Otunba (Mrs) Grace T**i Laoye-Tomori for the fourth time as the Executive Secretary of the council.

Honourable Afolabi Atolagbe, representing Ifedayo State Constituency in the state legislature, under matter of state public importance, drew the attention of the House to the development in the council.

He stated that contrary to the names of caretaker management committee nominees submitted to the House by the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and confirmed by the House last Monday, Ayantoye swore in other members whose names were not on the list.

He described the action as an affront to the rule of law and urged the House to look into the matter to prevent anarchy in the system.

Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Adebayo Wasiu, in his contribution, said that the development was embarrassing, which ordinarily attracts removal from office.

Honourable Jonson Ojo from Ede-South and Honourable Rasaq Adeyemi, Odo-Otin State constituencies also spoke on the matter, condemning the action and urged the House to take proper action against the executive secretary, to serve as a deterrent to others.

Honourable Kamil Oyedele of Irepodun Orolu State Constituency described the action as gross indiscipline and violation of the 1999 Constitution and the 2012 local government administration law, which empowers the state governor to nominate the council caretaker committee members and confirm by the house.

He said that there was urgent need for the House to avoid anarchy and protect the credibility of the House by sanctioning the executive secretary, saying if he should go unpunished, the credibility and powers of the House will be in question.

Honourable Oyedele then moved the motion that the council executive secretary should be suspended indefinitely and the Council Deputy Executive Secretary should be sworn in immediately, while Honourable Ojo seconded the motion.

Deputy Speaker, Honourable Akintunde Adegboye, who presided over the sitting, directed that Mr Sh*tu Pius Adeleke, the Deputy Executive Secretary, be sworn in immediately along with other nominees as confirmed by the House.

The other nominees as screened and approved by the House are Sh*tu Pius, Abatan David Olanrewaju, Scribe, Ayantomi Omolewa, Aborisade Segun, Olaoye Goke, Sunday Adeoye, Morakinyo Sunday, Babatunde Bunmi and Awoniyi Omoniyi.

Osun Empowers Indigeneous Motorists in Abuja, Gives Out 40 Cabs

Commercial motorists who are indigenes of the State of Osun, but live in Abuja, have begun to benefit from the empowerment scheme of the state government, as the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, presented 40 brand new cars to them for their commercial use.

The Federal Government had, last year, ordered that all rickety cabs on the streets of Abuja should be taken off the streets, but subsequent findings showed that 80 per cent of the affected drivers were Osun indigenes; hence, the state government saw the need to come to their aid, in order not to create another burden on the state.

The brand new Nissan Sunny Cars were purchased for the motorists on loan in conjunction with Sterling Bank on a single zero-digit interest rate, which they would pay back in 36 months without hardship.

Launching the scheme, tagged: “O’Cab Scheme” in Osogbo, the state capital last Monday, Governor Aregbesola reiterated that the determination of his administration is to ensure the eradication of poverty among all indigenes of the state, wherever they might be.

He stated that similar offer has been introduced to commercial motorists living within the state, but they have not responded, noting that whoever is interested in benefitting from the scheme should show up and fulfill the necessary requirements.

The governor then cautioned the beneficiaries not to see the opportunity as an avenue for them to be wayward, saying that whoever uses the vehicle appropriately would never regret, rather, they would be happier for it.

He re-echoed that whoever needs the assistance of the state government in their businesses should gather themselves into cooperative groups, while promising that his administration would help them talk to the bank that would assist them financially through loans without creating heavy burden on them.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Federal Matters, Mrs. Idiat Babalola, lauded Governor Aregbesola for always showing interest in anything that would empower the indigenes of the state.

She was full of praises that the project eventually became a reality, unlike past experiences when similar programmes turned out to be deceits.

Babalola then cautioned the beneficiaries not to allow the opportunity to get on their heads and begin living wayward lifestyles, so that the purpose of the scheme would not be defeated.

The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of Osun State Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr Kunle Oyatomi yesterday said it would not dignify the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with an explanation on its allegation against Governor Rauf Aregbesola until it proves them.

ACN noted that the PDP allegations were made to attract undeserved attention to it.

The statement reads: “We owe PDP no explanation as to how we run government because they have not demonstrated objectivity and a dependable ability to prove beyond all reasonable doubts their spurious allegations against Ogbeni’s government since he came to power in November 2010.

“It is not in the public interest or that of civilised democratic practice for us to continually suffer fools that appear to abound in Osun.

“If their spokesperson and informants have any sense of responsibility and seriously concerned that Ogbeni is doing anything in government that violates the law and diminish the ethics of civilised governance, they should go to court and seek redress; otherwise, they should stop this stupid business of making senseless noises to draw ignoble attention to themselves.

“The ACN in the State of Osun sees the PDP as a pathetic collection of unserious and idle people who are not equipped with the normal sense and sensibilities to appreciate that politics is a lot more serious business than manufacturing lies against their political opponents to score base points.

“Aregbesola’s trips outside the country are impacting significantly on governance and service delivery in the state of Osun. But if the PDP suffers such horrific impairment not to recognise it, they should not disturb public conscience with sick mentality.”
