🌸Floral Friday🌸

This week the outdoor team have had 193 hanging baskets and 36 half baskets delivered. Baskets have been erected all over Belper & Milford and will stay up for the whole summer to provide lots of colour and also pollen and nectar for the wildlife.

The outdoor team will maintain and keep all of the baskets watered throughout the summer. Our baskets contain a water reservoir in the bottom of the basket to help them not dry out. All of our baskets are grown in Peat-Free compost and contain a variety of plants chosen to be pollinator friendly, including fuchsia, calibrachoa, petunias, lysimachias, verbena and pelargonium.

Thank you to all of the businesses who take part in the town councils hanging basket scheme which helps brighten up Belper & Milford throughout the summer.

A Fresh Look for Acorn Rec

Acorn Recreation Ground in Belper has benefitted from a recent upgrade, bringing welcome improvements to this local green space.

Delivered by Amber Valley Borough Council, the works have helped refresh the site, ensuring it continues to serve residents, families and visitors as a safe, enjoyable place to spend time outdoors.

Residents were asked to vote on their preferred design for the park and Belper Town Council was pleased to part‑fund the project, contributing £37,000 to the delivery of these improvements which included a 3-way seesaw, a zip line, a spider swing, balance beam, small climbing frame, small slide, basketball net and 2 new benches. The big slide, swings and roundabout have been refurbished and the outdated bark was removed and replaced with new topsoil, turf and grass matting for safety.

HERBERT STRUTT CHARITY – GRANTS NOW AVAILABLE

The Herbert Strutt Charity was established by Deed on 15 May 1986 and was an amalgamation of 2 previous charities “The Charity for the Benefit of the Inhabitants of Belper (1908)” and “The Herbert Strutt Baths (1910)”. It is now managed by Belper Town Council.

This charity exists for the benefit of Belper parish residents and it’s grant criteria (in 1900’s legal speak!) upon which all grant applications are considered are:

• the relief of the aged, impotent and poor
• the relief of distress and sickness
• the provision and support of facilities for recreation and leisure time occupation
• the provision and support of educational facilities
• in such other ways as the Committee thinks

If you or your organisation would like to be considered for a grant, please take a look at the following page on our website where you will find application forms and further guidance.

Please share with anyone you think might be eligible.

🌸Floral Friday🌸

This week the outdoor team have been busy planting the flower beds at the junction of Field Lane and the front bed in the Memorial Gardens. As planned, many of the perennial plants survived from last year so these have been added to. This is great for the environment and follows our Peat-Free and & Wildlife Friendly Plan.

Field Lane flower bed has our iconic water wheel in place with 10 half baskets attached to it. These are planted up with fuchsia, calibrachoa, petunias, lysimachia, Verbena and pelargonium for a great display and a variety of colour. The water wheel itself is planted up with trailing lobelia, dichondra and blue ageratum to represent water flowing over the wheel.

The bed has Belper 250 designed in cineraria as part of the year long celebrations. Filled around the cineraria are begonias to make the Belper 250 stand out. The rest of the bed is a mixture of different perennials including coreopsis, heuchera, galliardia, echinacea, rudbeckia, verbena, gaura, ipomoea and geum koi.

The front bed in the Memorial Gardens is a fully planted perennial bed. Mixed colours of fFigaro dahlias are planted down from the barrels to the front, then the rest of the bed is planted with other perennials including echinacea, pennisetum alopecuroides, helenium hayday, coreopsis, heuchera, geum koi, galliardias and sedums.
