The Bureau of Meteorology operates a global leading Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre that is one of nine around the world and advises the international aviation industry of the location and movement of clouds of volcanic ash. The area covered by the Bureau includes Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and part of the Philippines. Some of the biggest eruptions known to history have occurred in this region.
