VISITATION: August 6, 2024; 6-8pm; Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Road, Country Club Hills, IL 60478

WAKE: August 7, 2024; 10am; Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Road, Country Club Hills, IL 60478

FUNERAL SERVICE: August 7, 2024; 11am; Leak and Sons Funeral Home, 18400 S. Pulaski Road, Country Club Hills, IL 60478

INTERMENT: August 7, 2024; Following Funeral Services; Mount Hope Cemetery, 11500 S. Fairfield Ave, Chicago, IL 60655

After the internment, they will return to funeral home for Repass.

SGT Benton was a well-loved full-time surface maintenance mechanic with Field Maintenance Shop 12 in Joliet. On the military side, he was a 91E Allied Trades Specialist – a welder – with the 404th MEB. He served for nearly 8 years including two months of state active duty at the Harwood COVID-19 testing site from April 2020 to June 2020. He died on July 26 after battling cancer.

Congratulations to SPC Melvin from our Marion office for successfully completing the level 2 Military Funeral Honors training course on March 5, 2024 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

11 Army National Guard soldiers from nine states and territories participated in the two week long course. This certifies soldiers to be instructors at the level 1 course (state level).

We are excited for SPC Melvin to share his experience and precision to our soldiers to better serve Veterans and their families.

On 9 February 2024, SPC Denise Flores of Bolingbrook was recognized for her dedication to the IL Military Funeral Honors Program.

SPC Flores demonstrated unwavering commitment to excellence by representing the United States Army in honoring fallen soldiers. She has served with the IL MFH Program since December 2021. Throughout her tenure, she has conducted over 610 funeral services.

She was awarded with the Army Achievement Medal.
