Applications are now open for the AJC Detroit 2026-27 Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) cohort. LFT is AJC's a transformative program for high schoolers that empowers Jewish teens to stand up against antisemitism, become community leaders, and advocate for the Jewish people and Israel.
Students will meet once a month from November through May and travel to Washington, D.C. for a summit with teens from around the country to lobby on Capitol Hill.

We stand with the congregation of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield and the broader Detroit Jewish community.

We are grateful to the law enforcement officers and first responders who are on the scene, working to protect and support everyone in the area.

We continue to actively monitor the situation.

If a Jewish teen is afraid to wear a Star of David, it isn’t just personal, it’s a red flag for all of us.

In her Detroit News op-ed, Amy Sapeika, AJC - Detroit Community Director, shares her son’s fear of wearing a Jewish star in public. His experience reflects a much larger reality highlighted in AJC’s newly released State of Antisemitism in America 2025 Report.

The numbers are alarming:
9 in 10 American Jews feel less safe following last year’s three violent attacks on Jews
55% have changed their behavior out of fear of antisemitism

After today’s antisemitic attack on Jews celebrating Hanukkah in Australia, the simple act of lighting candles carries added meaning. It is a reminder that Jewish life will not be intimidated or erased.

Tonight, to show solidarity with the Australian Jewish community, we urge those celebrating Hanukkah to share a photo of your lit menorah, and we welcome and encourage allies to share a photo of a lit candle. Use when you share your photo.

Let each light be a signal of solidarity, remembrance, and an unwavering commitment to stand against anti-Jewish hate.

We are heartbroken by the horrific shooting, car ramming, and arson attack at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, which left at least two dead and many others injured.

Our thoughts are with the mourners, the community, and our friends throughout the LDS church. We pray for the swift recovery of those injured, and may the memory of those lost be for a blessing.
