Upon the recommendation of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, and in
order to reduce the impact plastic is having on the environment, the use of the following inside
the campus are declared strictly prohibited:

1. Single-use Plastic Products - often referred to as disposable plastics, are commonly used
for packaging and include items intended to be used only once before they are thrown
away or recycled. These items include, but are not limited to, plastic food containers,
food packaging films, plastic straws, plastic stirrers, plastic grocery bags, and plastic

cutlery, as well as styrofoam food containers and cups.

2. Tarpaulins popularly known as "tarp" is already made of a type of plastic called

polyethylene, the decomposition of which can take up to 1,000 years.

With this declaration, announcements and dissemination of information inside the
campus regarding any activity or event shall now be done using cloth streamers and paper
posters

Likewise, all vendors and food providers inside the campus are explicitly prohibited from
using single-use plastic products as food drink containers and packaging material. They are
further required to provide their customers with recyclable or ecologically-friendly alternatives
like, paper bags, dishware and tableware made of ceramics or metal; drinking glasses or metal
cups: paper or metal straws, and recyclable plastic plates and cups (the recycling of which limits
their environmental impact).

As the success of this environmental campaign relies on the cooperation of everybody, all
faculty and staff members, and students are encouraged to bring food containers when
purchasing their meals, snacks, and drinks from the various canteens and food stalls inside the
Institute.

This Order takes effect on May 2, 2019, and shall remain in force, unless revoked by
