U.S. Forces Japan (在日米軍司令部) This is the official U.S. Forces Japan Facebook account, maintained by the USFJ Public Affairs Office Welcome to Headquarters, U.S.

Forces, Japan, (USFJ) and Yokota Air Base, Japan! Japan, the very word conjures up images of fans, kimonos, samurai and swords, cherry blossoms, and Mt Fuji. Such things are much a part of Japan; if you take full advantage of the wonderful adventure before you, you'll find there is much more to the "Land of the Rising Sun" than you ever dreamed. The springboard for your adventure will, of course,

be your new home...Yokota Air Base. Whether you're active duty, a civilian government employee, or a family member, you're sure to find that the quality of life at Yokota is as good as anywhere else you have ever lived. Yokota Air Base is located on the island of Honshu, Japan, on the Kanto Plain, 28 miles northwest of Tokyo, at the foot hills of the Okutama Mountains. The base lies within the political boundaries of six municipalities. These are Akishima, Fussa, Hamura, Mizuho, Musashi-Murayama, and Tachikawa.

The U.S. Army will celebrate its 251st birthday on Sunday, June 14. The Continental Army, the precursor to the U.S. Army, was established on June 14, 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence in 1776. So yes — the Army is technically older than the United States!

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Army! 🎉

Here's a message to our USFJ family from Lt. Gen. Stephen Jost, Commander, U.S. Forces Japan, on the U.S. Army's 251st Birthday:

Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen, Guardians, and Civilians,

On June 14, 1775, the United States Army was formed, beginning a 251-year legacy of steadfast dedication to our nation. The Army is not just a symbol of strength; it is composed of men and women of action who have defended our freedoms and shaped history through their grit, courage, and sacrifice. As the first service to answer the call, they set the standard for duty and honor that the rest of the joint force follows today. That proud legacy is alive and well right here in Japan.

Across U.S. Forces, Japan, Army personnel remain a cornerstone of regional security and the backbone of our community. To every Soldier, past and present: thank you. By training shoulder-to-shoulder with our Japanese allies and navigating an increasingly complex theater, your professionalism ensures we maintain a ready, relevant, and agile posture. Your daily efforts directly underwrite the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific.

We are a stronger, more cohesive joint team because of your steadfast drive to advance our mission and make this command better tomorrow than it is today.

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Army!

STEPHEN F. JOST
Lieutenant General, USAF
Commander, United States Forces, Japan
