NIGERIA - MOROCO GAS PIPELINE PROJECT GAINS MOMENTUM

A landmark gas pipeline project connecting Nigeria and Morocco is moving forward, with a projected annual capacity of 30 billion cubic meters, six times Morocco's annual gas consumption, according to the minister. Following successful talks between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and Moroccan authorities in January, the project has secured investments from Abu Dhabi and the UAE, as well as support from the Islamic Development Bank and the Opec Fund for International Development.

The 1,700 km pipeline, spanning from Dakia to northern Morocco, will eventually link Nigeria to Europe, solidifying the country's position as Africa's largest gas producer.
In related business news, Aliko Dangote received a delegation from the Nigeria-Egypt Business Council at his Lagos office. The team, led by President/Chairman Muhammad-Sa'in Lere, included Engr. Tarek and Engr. Walid from Petrojet, a leading oil and gas engineering company in Africa, and Engr. Mansur Ahmed, Group Executive Director of Dangote.

Global trade showed a positive trend in Q1 2024, with a 1% increase in goods trade and a 1.5% rise in services trade. This surge, driven by the US, China, and large Asian developing economies, is expected to add $250 billion to goods trade and $100 billion to services trade in H1 2024. Global GDP growth forecasts remain at 3% for 2024, with a cautiously optimistic short-term trade outlook. If trends persist, global trade may reach $32 trillion in 2024, though it is unlikely to surpass the 2022 record.

China, India, and the US drove trade growth, with exports increasing by 9%, 7%, and 3%, respectively. South-South trade grew by 2% in both imports and exports, while developed countries saw flat imports and a modest 1% rise in exports. The green energy and AI sectors saw significant growth, with trade values increasing by 25% for electric vehicles and high-performance servers.
