Who's keen for a get together?

11/09/2023

Hey There, Amazing Members! Time for a Little Change 🌟

We hope you're all doing fantastic and enjoying your time here in our community. We wanted to have a little chat about something exciting and inclusive – a small shift in how we operate that we think you'll all love. đŸ€

Up until now, our meetups have mostly been organized by a handful of dedicated individuals, and we're so grateful for their commitment. However, we believe in the power of this community and want to take a step back, making things even more member-driven.

Starting from today, we're opening up the opportunity for ALL of you to take the initiative and organize meetups in your own capacity. 🙌

Why are we doing this? Because we believe that every member of this group has something unique to offer, whether it's a passion for a particular activity, a desire to share knowledge, or just a great idea for a get-together. We want to encourage each and every one of you to step up, take the lead, and create events that resonate with you and your fellow members.

This doesn't mean we're getting rid of the existing meetups; they're still going strong! It just means we're adding a new layer of community involvement. No one person is the leader here; it's a collective effort, and together, we can make this group even more vibrant and diverse.

So, if you've been thinking about that awesome hiking trip, a book club, a sports event, or any other activity that you'd love to share with the group, go for it! Feel free to reach out to fellow members, brainstorm ideas, and get the ball rolling.

Remember, this isn't about formality or structure – it's about casual, warm, and friendly interactions. We're here to support each other, have fun, and grow together.
Let's continue to foster this amazing sense of community and camaraderie. Share your ideas, get together, and let's make this group a place where we all have a hand in creating memorable experiences.

Cheers to the power of unity and the many fantastic meetups to come! đŸ„‚đŸŽ‰

SO DARK & DEEP: A STORY OF MENTAL ILLNESS
It hits you all of a sudden. It’s the middle of the day, you’re surrounded by friends and the sun is out. But something isn’t right. There is this feeling, a very uncomfortable feeling in your mind, in the pit of your stomach. You want to leave and go somewhere that is quiet and dark. You are being consumed. Consumed by your own thoughts. So dark and so horrid, you are afraid. It’s wrecking you from the inside out.
But what can you do? Suffer? That’s what many of us do and did. But sometimes the suffering gets too much. You can’t handle the darkness that’s pulling you into an eternal abyss and you decide that only way to stop the darkness is to join it. You take your own life. Su***de. Simple as that.
I lost a very close friend of mine to su***de. It sent us, their friends and family, all into a cage. We felt trapped, we felt deep inside us this horrible, disgusting feeling and all you wanted to do is cry. That’s how suffering feels. This constant feeling of being trapped and not being able to do anything to stop it. That’s how people with mental illnesses feel constantly. It devours us. Fear eats our insides away until we are nothing but bones. Fear controls us. Fear puts us on autopilot and does whatever it wants.
That feeling you have in the pit of your stomach when you are about to do something that makes you nervous? That’s how anxiety feels. It’s how living with a mental illness feels. It runs our lives and we can’t stop it. Admitting to someone that you have a problem is probably the hardest thing to do. Admitting to my best friend that I have anxiety, depression and OCD took me months.
Every night I would run it around in my head, what and how will I tell my friend that I am crazy and I can’t control it? Will she be OK with it? Will she laugh? Is she going to stay being my friend? And that’s the problem I am trying to write about. Admitting you have a mental illness. It’s not easy to do and that’s why more than two million people are struggling. They can’t tell anyone.
Lucky for me, I have an amazing group of friends that understood, while some aren’t so lucky. A lot of friends and family reject their siblings or children or friends because they don’t know how to deal with a mental illness. Dealing with a mental illness, whether you have it or someone else does, is like a tripwire. You have to be so careful with your words or one bad move and it can devastate someone.
Do you remember the part where I mentioned a friend I lost to su***de? Well, her name was Abigail, but her friends and family called her Abby. Abby was obsessed-scratch that-dedicated to One Direction. They kept not only her happy, but everyone happy. Their music helps people, physically, mentally and spiritually. Abby also told me, before she passed, that One Direction was the only thing keeping her going.
Now, you might ask, where am I going with this? Well, what I am trying to do here is get One Direction to notice Abby’s story, get them to talk about mental health and let people, especially young adults, to realize that they are not alone in this battle with mental illnesses. No matter what the illness, no one is ever alone, no matter how lonely it seems.
“And here you are living, despite it all.” - Rupi Kaur
A quote that that always inspired me, even through those dark days when I decided I couldn’t do it anymore, couldn’t carry on living.
To all those suffering deep inside, pushing those feelings to the back of your brain, the bottom of your heart, please keep on living. Please remember that no matter how distant your future may seem, no matter how distant love may seem, it will always be there. Never lose hope; I know it’s easy to. We are rocks in a sea of chaos; we cannot let every storm knock us around. We simply mustn’t.

Attention all members,

It's time we address the core purpose behind the creation of this group. We came together with a shared objective: to establish a space where men can actively engage, participate in meaningful discussions, and extend unwavering support to one another. Our potential as a collective support network is boundless, but recent observations have left us somewhat disheartened.

Out of our impressive membership count of 93, only a mere 7 men have consistently stepped up and engaged. While we appreciate their dedication, it's a stark reminder that we must all reflect on our commitment to this endeavor. If you've joined this group with the intent of making a difference, it's crucial that you align your actions with that intent.

This is a call to action for all members. If you've been lurking in the shadows, hesitant to contribute, it's time to reassess your involvement. We've nurtured this community to be a vibrant platform for mutual support, but it can only thrive if each of us is prepared to play an active role.

Let's be unequivocally clear: if you're not genuinely invested in driving positive change within this group, then this might not be the right space for you. We don't say this to discourage anyone, but to emphasize the essence of our purpose. We're here to uplift, to share, and to strengthen each other.

In light of recent trends, the administrators have decided to take a necessary step. Those who consistently choose to remain on the sidelines will regrettably be removed from the group. It's a step we take with a heavy heart, but it's crucial to ensure the integrity of our purpose.

For those who are serious about contributing to a supportive community and truly wish to be part of this group, the path forward is clear. Engage. Participate. Support. These are not just words, but the pillars upon which we've built this group.

Let's show the world the force for positivity that we can become. Step up, engage, and let's make the changes we need to make. The journey ahead is exciting, and it's ours to shape.

With unwavering determination,
The Brotherhood Admin Team

Differences in Male Coping Mechanisms 👹‍🩳🧔👹‍🩰
The felt symptoms of anxiety and depression are obviously very similar for men and women, (there isn’t a male versus female form of depression or anxiety); however it’s clear that men and women often cope in different ways.

Women are statistically more likely to internalize and ruminate over problems, whereas men will typically externalize the problem and act out in counterproductive ways.

Not all men follow these patterns; however some of the following factors can apply:

Becoming easily irritable, restless, or short-tempered.
Reacting defensively, getting angry, or showing aggression.
Becoming distracted or fixating on other issues.
Drinking more alcohol or using other substances.
Engaging in high-risk activities.
Shifting the blame or projecting problems onto other people.
Showing contempt or becoming critical about less important issues.
Changes in appetite and weight.
Failing to recognize, ignoring or denying the problem.
Whilst the reasons for these differences are complex, it’s recognized that cultural expectations and social norms place significant pressure on boys and men to be strong and brave without showing emotions or talking about feelings. These patterns are gradually changing as each generation becomes more informed and emotionally intelligent; however the gender expectations on coping for men and women remain different.

Men are less likely to talk openly and share their feelings than women. Men typically use verbal communication on an instrumental basis for problem-solving or task completion. Women are generally better at using communication on a relational basis to create a sense of safety, closeness, or security.

Men and boys are less likely to seek help, which leads to undiagnosed problems and feelings of isolation, loneliness, shame, and embarrassment.

📣 Embracing the Heart of Our Purpose đŸ€đŸ’™
Hey there, incredible members of All Walks of Life Men! As our community continues to grow, let's take a moment to remember the core reason behind the creation of this group. While making friends and enjoying meetups is fantastic, we're here for something even more profound.
🌟 Our purpose is to be a pillar of help, encouragement, and unwavering support for Men who may be navigating challenging times. We understand that life can throw curveballs, and sometimes, all it takes is a listening ear, a caring heart, or a guiding hand to make a world of difference.
đŸ€— In this digital age, being part of a Facebook group is wonderful, but we're so much more than that. We're a place where you can reach out if you're feeling lost, overwhelmed, or in need of genuine connection. Whether you're seeking counseling, guidance, or just someone to truly listen, we're here for you.
🌈 It's important to acknowledge that life's journey isn't always smooth sailing. We understand that Men's su***de rates have been on the rise, and we're committed to doing our part to help change this heartbreaking trend. While we may not be professionals, we can offer a compassionate ear and guide you toward resources that can provide the expert help you deserve.
đŸŒŒ Remember, it's absolutely okay to not be okay. Every single emotion you're experiencing is valid, and reaching out for support is an act of strength, not weakness. You are NEVER alone in your struggles, and you have a community right here that cares deeply about your well-being.
🙏 So, if you're going through a tough time, if you're feeling lost or overwhelmed, if you need someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to stand with you, to listen without judgment, and to help you find the assistance you need to heal and thrive.
đŸ’Ș Let's shatter the stigma surrounding seeking help, together. You matter your well-being matters, and your journey matters. Don't ever forget that.
