I haven't posted on this page in a very long while, but in an attempt to get back to sharing here regularly, I'm starting with a simple note of gratitude:

Being on the school board was never on my bingo card and yet it has, over the past two years, become one of the most meaningful callings of my life. I count it as an absolute joy and honor because of who I get to serve with and the 49,000 students we get to serve on behalf of.

The trustees in this picture personify servant leadership and I really just want to say how proud and grateful I am for their sacrifices. We are seven different individuals who all ran for different reasons, yet we come together every month with a clear, shared purpose: to do what’s best for students and staff in Lamar CISD. The decisions are heavy at times and the responsibility is massive, but our students and staff deserve nothing less than a board who embraces the challenge.

So to my fellow trustees - thank you. Thank you for holding yourselves to the highest standard of transparency, civility, humility, grace, and for doing the right thing even when it’s hard. I am extremely proud to serve alongside you and I am certain the best is yet to come.

First week BACK TO SCHOOL for LCISD!📚✏️🍎 lots of school visits…summer graduation…house colors! 💚 HUGE THANK YOU to all our principals, teachers, admin, staff, and bus drivers who are working so hard getting all our kiddos back into the swing of things! We see you and couldn’t be more grateful!

✨Starry Night Prom ✨ Possibly one of the sweetest LCISD events I’ve been too. These kids had the TIME OF THEIR LIVES breaking it down on the dance floor. Huge shout out to our Lamar CISD Police Department officers for being escorts and dance partners for the night. 💙

Had the honor of speaking to Scarlett’s PALs class about servant leadership at George Ranch High School yesterday. Because he’s simply the best, when I asked Dr. Nivens to be my “surprise guest” and talk to the kiddos with me, of course he said yes and spoke life over these students in a big way. Huge thanks to Heather Patterson for sitting in and snapping pics and another big thanks to Mrs. Jammer for the invitation! Grateful every day to get to do what I do. 💕

School visits are my absolute fave…and it’s extra fun with great company! Special thanks to Principal Rocha at Seguin Early Childhood Center for letting us love on some sweet babies, Principal Thomas as T.L. Pink Elementary for showing us some Palomino Pride, and Principals Frazier and Spano at Jane Long Elementary for letting us pop in unannounced! I truly love walking our schools and getting a peek into the day to day of our incredible teachers, students, and staff. Continually thankful and honored for this role. 💙

Stopped by B.F. Terry Ranger Pride this afternoon to see the 2024 LCISD Rodeo Art Show! 🖼️ Continually blown away by all the talent in our district. Over 500 amazing pieces were displayed so no way to share them all, but here are some of our faves!

Got to watch some super smart students compete in our inaugural Academic Decathlon this afternoon. Congrats to the team at Foster High School for taking home the big win! Cheering you on as you head to regionals! 🎉 🏆

Quick tour of Frost Elementary this morning before the board leveling workshop tonight. Dr. Nivens, Trustee Zach Lambert and I walked the halls with Principal Foster and listened as she explained how they handle their large enrollment. It’s clear by the sheer amount of community feedback we’ve received over the last month that Frost is a beloved school in LCISD.

The purpose and intent of the leveling process is to provide relief to our overcrowded schools and balance enrollment out amongst our schools that are under capacity. As new developments come in and older neighborhoods age-out, the district must adjust. It’s not a fun process, but it’s necessary.

You can attend the workshop tonight at the Brazos Crossing Administration Building at 6:30 pm. It will also be live streamed on the LCISD YouTube Channel. We anticipate lot of public comment tonight, so if you wish to speak please show up by 6:15 to register!
