Photo dump from the last couple weeks. Gosh!!! So much to celebrate around Lamar CISD lately! 🎉 It’s a blessing to be a part of all these incredible moments. Thank you for letting me share my heart at Convocation and thank you to everyone in these pictures and the many, many more who work so hard behind the scenes to make it all happen! 💙 (Descriptions in photos.)

Welcome back, LCISD! 💙📚

Praying it’s the BEST DAY EVER for our sweet students, our teachers, staff, and all the parents sending a little piece of their heart into our schools today.

Also praying we can extend a whole bunch of GRACE to each other - it’s the first day! New routines, new faces, long drop-off lines, nervous kiddos… we’re all figuring it out together. 😊 Happy first day!!!! 🎉

Grateful to have had the opportunity to help welcome back our district leaders as they kicked off the 2026-27 school year at their Leadership Retreat a couple weeks ago, and then spending yesterday with our first-year teachers and (L.E.A.F.) at their New Teacher Induction. 💙

Next week, the Board of Trustees will get together for our version of back-to-school prep as well! 😊 We’ll be planning for the year ahead, setting goals, and making sure we’re aligned around what matters most: strong governance and creating the best possible outcomes for every Lamar CISD student.

A great school year doesn’t just happen by accident y’all! It starts long before the first bell rings with thousands of people prepping, planning, and working together so our kiddos have every opportunity to succeed. Thankful for all our amazing educators doing just that right now and can’t wait to welcome everyone back soon!

The entire Lamar CISD Board of Trustees traveled to San Antonio, Texas last week to attend TASB Summer Leadership Institute, a 3 day conference for school board members to gain our required CEC's and then some. There were a lot of great sessions, but honestly, the biggest value always comes from talking with people who are doing the same work in different parts of the state. No matter the size of the district, the challenges are surprisingly similar. And a few themes kept coming up over and over again.

For those that don't know, TASB is essentially the trade association for Texas public school boards. They're the only organization in Texas operating at a scale large enough to provide comprehensive governance training, policy support, legal updates, risk management services, board development, and a statewide network for trustees all in a one-stop shop. Some may say they have a monopoly on the situation but competitive associations such as TEE have started to emerge.

For what it's worth, I'll say that you don't have to agree with TASB on everything to recognize the value they provide. In fact, I don't know any trustees who agree with TASB on everything. When a trustee in Lamar CISD encounters a challenge, odds are a trustee in Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock, Katy, Frisco, or Brownsville has already dealt with it. TASB is often the place where that knowledge gets collected, organized, and shared. Does that mean they're always right? Of course not. They're a large membership organization. Like any large organization, they're going to have positions, priorities, and perspectives that not every member agrees with. But I think it's important to separate: "I disagree with them on some things." from "They provide no value." because those are very different statements. My responsibility is to learn from every credible source available, take what's useful, leave what isn't, and make decisions that are best for Lamar CISD. (i.e...use my God given brain, judgement, and discernment). Okay, I digress! 😄

A look back on an incredible year!

If there's one thing I hope these photos communicate, it's this: your Lamar CISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent are really and truly a team.

The 2025-2026 school year has been filled with school openings, school visits, graduations, celebrations, committee meetings, community events, long workshops, and plenty of hard conversations, all with one goal in mind - creating the best possible opportunities and outcomes for our students.

It's an honor every single day to serve alongside these incredibly dedicated people on behalf of Lamar CISD and I truly believe the best is yet to come!
