Attention:

Newton County Farm Bureau will be hosting a Candidate Forum for Newton County candidates.

It is scheduled for June 26th at the Wright Center at Crowder College Neosho. The event will start at 6 PM and doors will open at 5:30 PM. All candidates will be allowed up to 2 minutes to introduce themselves and say why they are running for office.

Once everyone has introduced themselves, there will be a Q & A for each office. The questions will come from the public, and each candidate will be given a minute to answer.

I am running for State Representative in District 160 and there are three Republicans running as well.

Candidates for the County offices will also be there to introduce themselves and answer questions.

Please come and be informed so you know who you want for your local leadership.

Nearly two thirds of Missouri’s revenue comes from State Income Tax. If Amendment 5 passes, State Income Taxes will be phased out and the legislators will replace the lost revenue by increasing sales and use taxes without further voter approval.

I AM VOTING NO ON AMMENDMENT 5!
LEGISLATURE ALREADY HAS THE POWER TO REDUCE INCOME TAX, BUT MUST RELY ON A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE TO RAISE SALES AND USE TAXES. THIS AMMENDMENT WOULD GIVE THEM THE POWER TO RAISE SALES TAXES AND USE TAXES WITHOUT A VOTE, AND ON ITEMS AND SERVICES NOT CUSTOMARILY TAXED.

Barring a final change by the Missouri Supreme Court, the ballot will say:

“Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to:

•Require legislative phase-out of the individual state income tax based on revenue growth, and authorize the expansion of sales and use taxes;

•Curtail constitutional limits on taxing goods and services; and

•Require local tax rate cuts without reducing school funding if local sales tax revenue increases?”

The fair ballot language changes, are intended to make it clear to voters that rejecting the amendment would not alter the legislature’s power to reduce or eliminate the income tax.

Morse Park Walking Trail Lighting Project Update

After savings from the Scenic Park Pavilion project and direction from the Neosho City Council, Henson Electric was able to complete Phases 2 and 3 of the Morse Park Walking Trail Lighting Project.

The project now provides LED trail lighting from the north side of Morse Park near the Hickory Creek RV Park all the way to Spring Street near the City Soccer Fields. These improvements enhance visibility, safety, and accessibility for those enjoying the trail during the evening hours.

Phase 4, which is projected to begin in late 2026, will complete the project by extending the lighting west along the trail to the Lampo Building.

Thank you to the Neosho City Council, Henson Electric, and our Parks & Recreation team for helping continue improvements throughout Morse Park.
