"Massachusetts is not immune from the pandemic of systemic racism. Recent reports document that racial and ethnic disparities persist at every level of our juvenile and criminal systems. In November 2019, the Juvenile Justice Policy and Data Board noted that, in spite of decreases in arraignment, racial and ethnic disparities persist at every systemic level and may actually be increasing."

TONIGHT @ 7PM EST!

Across the country people’s ability to vote is being threatened by white supremist militias, an underfunded postal service infrastructure, a mass pandemic, and a long history of disenfranchisement. The urgency of protecting and expanding the vote over the next few months is undeniable. We are recruiting Law for Black Lives members to join the struggle and volunteer with organizations committed to ensuring fair and accessible elections in 2020. This webinar will feature some of those organizations and will be an opportunity to learn more about their work as well as to hear about upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Hampden County Defenders for Black Lives is a collective of Masachusetts lawyers, social workers, investigators and legal support professionals who are committed to combating anti-blackness, racial bias, and racial disparities in the criminal legal systems, child welfare and juvenile legal systems, and mental healthcare systems in Hampden County.

We aim to highlight the ways in which anti-blackness and racial bias manifest in these systems, to the disadvantage of our clients and the communities we serve.

We are committed to examining and eliminating our own internalized biases in order to better advocate for and with our clients and the communities we serve.

We also aim to establish relationships with, and take direction from, community organizations, service providers, and individuals who are working to confront anti-blackness and racial bias.
