Sometimes at Christmas, we have trouble finding the right gift for a loved one. As a missionary, I had the opposite problem. I had the perfect gift—I just wasn’t sure who I was going to give it to.

When I was in Edinburgh, Scotland, near the end of my mission, I saw a beautiful pink cashmere sweater set—a Scottish specialty—in a shop window. There was no one I had in mind for it, I just knew I wanted to buy it. So I did.

When I got home and was unpacking, I showed the sweater set to my mom who asked, “What in the world are you going to do with this?”

Very confidently, I answered, “I’m going to find the girl who fits it, and I’m going to marry her!”

I gave that sweater set to Barbara Bowen for Christmas in 1950. It was a bold move considering we weren’t even steadily dating at the time!

I was pleased to see that she adored the sweater set. A short time later, we were engaged. That was more than 70 years ago.

During this Christmas season, I give thanks to God our Father for sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth. The Savior overcame death and sin. If we follow Him, we can experience everlasting joy.

Although my sweetheart and eternal companion has passed from this earth life, I know that because of Jesus Christ’s willingness to come to earth to fulfill God’s plan, we all can return to our heavenly home to live with our Heavenly Parents, our Savior, and our loved ones once again.

"It's not a race; it's a journey."

Never compare your time to others. God has settled you to a different timeline, and He always keeps His promises as you keep your covenant to Him. Remember that every journey gives you new knowledge about God and how much he is more than willing to sacrifice for your benefit. Never lose hope if you think that your time is yet to come. As you keep your faith and continually do His will, the gate of Heaves will open, and blessings will come to you even a hundredfold and more.

Cheer up, brothers and sisters, our Father in Heaven are mindful of us. The purpose of Jesus Christ Atonement Sacrifice is for Him to know all the kinds of adversity that man shall endure. He sees us more than we appreciate ourselves.

I could attest to this, brothers and sisters. He never said there would be no storms, but He promised me rainbows after it. I never thought I could endure such a painful journey in my life, but He comforted and lifted me in all those hopeless moments. He told me that I am precious and deserve the happiness of this mortal living.

I know you already learned about this kind of experience and saw the kindling light you hoped. I believe that through our Savior Jesus Christ and following his footsteps, He will make us glorious in the last days.

I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided me with the leaders that will continually help me grow as a daughter of heaven. I know that the book of Mormon is another testament of the Lord and was linked to the bible. He loves us, brothers and sisters. I know all the things I say are accurate, and I leave this in the name of our redeemer, Jesus Christ, Amen.

The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ testifies of the living reality and divinity of our Savior and Redeemer. It is the word of God and warns and prepares us for the world we live in now. I love the words Mormon shares with his son in Moroni 9:25:

“My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever.”

The teachings of Christ will lift us up. The hope He provides will help us through life’s challenges. I invite you to read of Him, to learn of Him, and to follow Him.

The Lord can do extraordinary things with rocks!

You may recall the story in the Book of Mormon about the brother of Jared bringing his 16 stones to be touched by the Lord. This story teaches us that our Heavenly Father can do anything, and can bring His light to the most unexpected places, in the most unexpected ways.

He says, "Bring me anything you have and together we’ll make it a light that cannot be diminished." On the days when you feel ordinary, when you feel like your best maybe isn’t good enough, remember that God isn’t asking any of us to be perfect.

What He requires from us is our hearts and a willing mind (Doctrine and Covenants 64:34). What He asks from us is that we do all that we can—we offer our loaves and small fishes, our rocks—and we give them willingly to Jesus Christ. He magnifies and touches our offerings, and they become enough, with more to spare. You are probably doing better than you think you are!

“Gratitude provides us with a greater perspective on the very purpose and joy of life.”

In his 96 years of life, President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has seen almost everything—a Great Depression, a world war, and a global pandemic, to name a few. And he would like to propose one remedy that can help us find joy in hard times: gratitude.

Practicing gratitude may not prevent us from experiencing sorrow, anger, or pain, but it can help us look forward with hope. We can give thanks for our loved ones, for our bodies and minds, for music and literature, for the beauty of the natural world.

President Nelson suggests three ways you can in your own life:

1) Turn social media into your own gratitude journal.
2) Say a prayer of gratitude.
3) Build your relationship with Jesus Christ.

By counting our blessings, we can more fully appreciate and enjoy our lives as we work toward greater unity, kindness, honesty, and tolerance.

Reported by: Melvi Briones, November 19, 2020

The Latter Day Saint Charities-Philippines, Inc. has answered to the pressing medical facility needs of the Bicol Region as it officially turned over 45 hospital beds and complete medical accessories worth ₱ 1,249,965.00 to the Bicol Medical Center (BMC), the region’s largest medical center, last Nov 19, 2020.

During the program, President Michael T. Diaz emphasized that the donation is given out of pure love and sacrifice of the church’s global membership from observing a 24- hours fasting or skipping 2 meals and then donating the saved money as a form of fast offering assistance to help the needy.

Dr. Sales expressed profound gratitude for the very timely donation of the church. He said that as of the time of donation, they already have wards were 3 patients share in 1 bed and many others are housed along the corridors and only in folding beds. He assured that the high-quality materials of the beds along with its accessories will improve the hospital’s capacity to provide better healthcare to its patients.

Also present during the ceremony were representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ’s Bishop Romulo San Ramon, together with his family, of Naga First Ward, Naga Stake Communications Director Melvi Briones and Assistant directors for Media and Opinion Leader Paul John Legaspi and Teresita Bongalon and the BMC Donation Acceptance Team.
