Preservation + Passive Recreation = a Win for our Neighbors!

Yesterday was an exciting day in Haddonfield, as we celebrated the ribbon cutting of a new pavilion at Hopkins Pond. This $325,000 investment by Camden County has created a space for accessible, inclusive park access and enjoyment - a concept I first approached the County with while serving as Haddonfield’s Mayor.

Many thanks to our Parks Dept., DPW, and the entire team behind this beautiful addition to the County Park System! And thank you to my friend & colleague, Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, for your partnership & park stewardship!

This Memorial Day hit me differently. Serving as Liaison to our Camden County Office of Veteran’s Affairs has meant that I’ve spent the last several months learning from and serving our Camden County Veterans, including Gold Star families and neighbors who will spend today mourning loved ones.

Thank you to Congressman Donald Norcross, NJ Commissioner of Veteran’s Affairs Vincent Solomeno, Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen, and all those who joined our annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Harleigh Cemetery, especially my dear friends, Assemblywoman & Gold Star Mother Melinda Kane, and NJ State Senator & US Army Veteran Nilsa Cruz-Perez.

May we always honor those who gave their lives for our freedom, and continue sharing their stories as part of our Nation’s history.

A traumatic birth experience in 2015 forever changed my life and ushered in my maternal health advocacy era. After 10 years of discovery, healing, and public policy work with federal, state & local partners, it felt wonderful to spend April at multiple events centered on the issues that impact women, our families & communities.

I was ecstatic to embrace Governor Sherrill as she visited Camden to announce her investments in maternal health, including the expansion of the Family Connects NJ universal newborn home visitation program to all 21 counties in New Jersey by 2027.

Thank you to the many people doing this important work, including healthcare partners like CamCare and The Cooperative. We’ve got much more work to do, especially when it comes to improving outcomes for Black mothers & babies, but today I’m choosing to focus on the progress we’ve made and the people championing the emotional, mental & physical health of mamas in NJ!
