This legislation creates the Sexual Assault Survivor Empowerment Task Force โ€” a critical step toward studying, evaluating, and strengthening the services and protections available to survivors across Louisiana.

Survivors deserve more than sympathy. They deserve support, protection, resources, and a system willing to listen and act. This task force will help identify barriers, improve access to services, and recommend meaningful legislative solutions that put survivors first.

This legislation increases minimum sentencing penalties for domestic abuse battery committed in the presence of a child. Children should never have to witness violence in their homes, and those who commit these acts must be held accountable.

Protecting children and supporting survivors of domestic violence will continue to be a priority as we work to build safer families and stronger communities across Louisiana.

Iโ€™m proud to share that HB 769 has passed House Floor Debate and is now headed to a Senate Committee. This legislation would require individuals charged with domestic abuse battery and certain related violent offenses against family members to be held without bail for at least 48 hours, but no more than 72 hours.

Victims and survivors deserve protection, support, and a justice system that takes these acts of violence seriously. We must continue working to break cycles of abuse and prioritize the safety of families across Louisiana.
