CLARIFICATION ON 4-DAY-WORK-WEEK SCHEME

In an effort to reduce the energy consumption and minimize the transportation expenses of employees brought about by the drastic increase of the prices of petroleum products as a result of the conflicts in Iran, the government has implemented the 4-day-workweek scheme.

But for the clarification of all our stakeholders, agencies and offices that provide essential services, including public schools, are not included in this scheme.

In the Department of Education, only the division, regional and central offices can implement this scheme. Teachers are not included to avoid disruption of classes. Hence, 5-day classes from Monday to Friday will continue until March 31, 2026, the last day of SY 2025-2026.

To reiterate, CLASSES WILL CONTINUE FROM MONDAY TO FRIDAY.

Please be guided.

Gamut NHS to implement the Strengthened Senior High School curriculum starting June

Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 12, s. 2026, Gamut National High School will implement the strengthened senior high school curriculum in the upcoming SY 2026-2027 this June. The implementation will start with Grade 11. The incoming Grade 12 students will continue the old curriculum until their graduation.

The revision of the original SHS curriculum will bring forth significant changes that are expected to improve the learning outcomes of the senior high school students.

Streamlined Core Subjects

The number of core subjects has been significantly reduced from 15 to just 5 as part of the strengthened SHS curriculum.

The five core subjects are:

Effective Communication

Life and Career Skills

General Mathematics

General Science

Pag-aaral ng Kasaysayan at Lipunang Pilipino
These are taught throughout the full academic year to deepen mastery of foundational competencies.

Fewer and More Focused Tracks

The previous four-track system (Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, Sports, and Arts & Design) has been condensed into two main tracks:

Academic Track

Technical-Professional (TechPro) Track

Arts and Sports electives are now part of the Academic track instead of being separate tracks.

New Elective Structure and Flexibility

Electives are reorganized into clusters within each track, giving learners more choice in tailoring their SHS education to their interests and career pathways.

Through the so-called “doorway option,” students can take electives across different clusters instead of being limited to a specific strand or track.

Expanded Emphasis on Work Immersion and Real-World Skills

The strengthened curriculum includes a greater focus on work immersion, apprenticeship, and industry-aligned experiences to enhance employability and career readiness.

Work immersion hours and field experiences are being reviewed and extended compared to previous practices, increasing real-world exposure for learners.

Revised Time Allotment and Instructional Design

Core subjects are now taught throughout the school year with increased hours to allow students more time to master essential competencies.

Elective time allocations have also been recalibrated to better support deeper learning aligned with learners’ goals.

As Gamut NHS implements the revised SHS curriculum, it looks forward to a more responsive and supportive stakeholders that will hand in hand work towards improving the learning outcomes.

Opportunity for Better Learning, Unlocked at Gamut National High School

GAMUT, Barobo, Surigao del Sur — Gamut National High School has taken a significant step toward strengthening digital learning after receiving a free Starlink internet package from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) under its flagship project, Provision of Internet Access via Low Earth Orbit Satellites (PIALEOS). The initiative is implemented in strong partnership with the Department of Education, targeting remote public schools nationwide.

The newly installed internet connection is expected to accelerate the school’s efforts to integrate ICT-enabled teaching strategies, enabling teachers to deliver more engaging, technology-driven lessons and equipping learners with essential 21st-century skills. With connectivity extended directly into classrooms, both teachers and students can access online resources in real time, supporting research, collaboration, and other instructional activities during class hours.

School officials emphasized that improved internet access will enhance the overall learning environment and help raise student achievement and learning outcomes, particularly in subjects that benefit from digital content and interactive platforms.

The GNHS community expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Division of Surigao del Sur for its continued support, especially in advancing the school’s ICT initiatives.

With this milestone, Gamut National High School reaffirms its commitment to inclusive, future-ready education—ensuring that learners, even in remote areas, are not left behind in the digital age.
