⚽️ Honored to join the Group of Friends of Football at the United Nations yesterday to celebrate World Football Day ✨

Football is far more than a game: it’s a powerful platform for young people to play, connect, belong, and thrive 💙

🔜 Looking ahead to July 17 at UN Headquarters in New York 🇺🇳, where we’ll come together to harness the power of football to support youth mental health and wellbeing 🧠

And yes… a special exception for this informal gathering to wear my national jersey inside the UN ☺️, a reminder that our diversity strengthens our shared mission as international civil servants 🌍

Last week, with the UN Youth Affairs we brought together a group of Member States 🇲🇦🇧🇪🇴🇲🇷🇴🇱🇺🇲🇽🇩🇴🇲🇼🇮🇩, youth and UN entities for a high-level dialogue on Youth Mental Health and Well-being, in collaboration with UN Office for Partnerships 🧠🤝.

It was encouraging to see strong engagement around the urgent need to strengthen global cooperation, policy action and investment for youth mental health, and to ensure young people remain at the center of these conversations 🌍✨.

I am grateful to the Member States who participated in this inaugural session of a Mental Health Series at the Goals Lounge, as well as to our UN partners — including World Health Organization, UNICEF and UNESCO — for their continued leadership and collaboration on this important agenda 🙏.

✨ Your honesty, lived experience and critical voices constantly challenge and strengthen our work, especially where young people are too often missing from the conversation.

➡️ You have helped in shaping the direction of the Office, not just in individual moments but over time. Your input has made a real difference, from implementing our Strategic Plan to shaping our flagship initiatives.

Great to be in Madrid 🇪🇸 engaging with long‑standing and new partners to advance key youth priorities ✨🇺🇳.

🧠 A central theme across many of my engagements has been youth mental health and wellbeing, with a strong focus on how digital technologies are reshaping young people’s lives, relationships and communities.

At the UN Youth Affairs we are advancing this work through our flagship initiative, reshaping global narratives and driving transformative action for and with young people 🌎💙.

Last week, the United Nations Headquarters in New York welcomed young people from around the world for the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum 🌍.

Over three days, Youth Ministers, delegates, civil society activists, and UN entities came together to exchange ideas and build synergies to strengthen youth agency in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals ✨ .

Once again, the message was clear: meaningful and institutional participation of young people makes our organization stronger and more effective ✊.

🇳🇬✨ I had the pleasure of visiting Nigeria for the very first time, home to the largest youth population in Africa.

During my mission, I was grateful for the opportunity to:

🔹 Meet with senior government officials, including the Vice‑President and Ministers responsible for Youth Development, Education, Agriculture, and Employment

🔹 Visit inspiring grassroots projects, where the UN is supporting community‑led, youth‑driven empowerment initiatives

🔹 Engage in multiple working sessions with UN Country Team colleagues 🇺🇳 to learn, exchange, and identify opportunities to accelerate the implementation of UN youth initiatives

🔹 Connect with vibrant and motivated young people during a townhall at UN House 🌍💬

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the preparation and delivery of this rich and impactful mission 💪🏽🙏
