Today (June 6) is National Trails Day. Hope to see you out on a Zionsville trail !

The American Hiking Society has some tips on being a good trail steward:

* Admire the trail’s beauty while respecting its natural significance

* Leave trails better than you found them

* Promote community by ensuring that trails are welcoming for all

* Advocate for trails, trail funding and trail preservation

* Share the space with other users - and wildlife of course.

Have fun on the trails today.

A glorious day for planting milkweed along the Big 4 Rail Trail!

A group of almost 20 volunteers helped the Zionsville Parks Foundation and Zionsville Parks and Recreation plant over 180 milkweed plugs (a combination of incarnata, syriaca and tuberosa).

The milkweeds were provided through a grant awarded to the Foundation from Monarch Watch.

We look forward to watching them grow and attract monarch butterflies.

Still thinking about Thursday 🌿

A few more moments from the Carpenter Nature Preserve Phase 1 celebration as we count down to welcoming the community out to experience it soon.

⚠️ REMINDER: the preserve is not yet open to the public as crews continue final site efforts following recent weather impacts. We can’t wait to share more details on the official opening in the coming weeks!

Until then… here are a few more glimpses of what’s to come 👀

Zionsville Parks Foundation was honored to be a part of yesterday's celebration for the completion of Phase 1 of the Carpenter Nature Preserve.

We are so grateful to our donors and supporters who have helped us make an impact on this wonderful new community asset - a place to relax, recharge, and reflect in nature.

"Now that it's become a reality, it's a dream come true for us to be able to leave this legacy of beauty and nature preservation for generations to come. We hope others will be inspired to protect more green space, knowing how vitally important this will be in the future." - Nancy Carpenter.

Stay tuned for details about the public opening in mid-June!

What a great day!
