Congratulations to Chief Todd Werth of the Boardman Township Police Department, recipient of the Leader of the Year Award at our 2026 Mental Health Awards! 🏆💙

Chief Todd Werth has dedicated his life to serving others — through the United States Army, the FBI, and now as Chief of Police for Boardman Township. His leadership has been defined not only by professionalism and integrity, but by his commitment to protecting the wellbeing of first responders and those who serve our community every day.

Because of his vision and persistence, the Clarence R. Smith First Responder Wellness Center became a reality, creating a lasting resource that provides mental health support, crisis response, wellness services, and training for first responders throughout Mahoning County. Chief Werth recognized that behind every uniform is a human being carrying stress, trauma, and challenges that deserve care and support. His leadership continues to reshape how our community approaches wellness in public safety.

Thank you, Chief Werth, for your extraordinary leadership, compassion, and dedication to building a stronger, healthier future for those who protect our community. 💙

Today we attended the fallen officers memorial at St. Mary's. The names of the fallen were read off and a leo brought a rose to adorn the wreath. Family attending accompanied the officers with flower and placed it in the wreath. Sadly about half the list was from recent (1980's) and many names I recognized from news reports. One particular was a neighbor and friends dad my father rode to work with everyday. Words to me come rather easily when addressing a crowd but today was hard. How do you say thankyou for giving your life in protection of others, people they never met? How do you tell Family how much you appreciate what their loved one did knowing they face a lifetime of sorrow and an empty place in their hearts?
Protecting and serving is why they wear a badge. It was brought up today that no one signs " up for this" to lose their lives in the line of duty but they certainly know the risk. May God bless our men and women in blue and my He keep forever in his kingdom those that made the ultimate sacrifice. 🙏

If your thinking about it.... don't! The sheriff unveiled the new Bearcat at our board meeting at the butler today. Impressive vehicle you don't want rolling up to " your scene"!

This is the cost in data centers to ohio in lost sales tax.. the legislature promised much lower numbers and gave away 100's of millions. The state needs to fix this and give some real relief on taxes.

Today we remember and honor those that died in service to our great nation. One day a year is not nearly enough to set aside for the sacrifices that were made for our daily freedoms and our way of life in America. Too often we get caught up in arguments over things that pale to what we should be focusing on but thats just how things are. Today is a opportunity to reset and realize how blessed we are because there were those that died seeing the cause of the country was greater than life itself. May God keep them forever in his arms and may we keep them forever in our hearts and memories.

This morning my uncle and God father passed away. He was at home in the house he built with his two hands, surrounded by loving family. To say that our family is tight knit and close is an understatement. Two brothers married sisters and growing up cousins were like siblings and still are today. Im sitting here thinking about so many times we shared with uncle Nick and aunt Carol and how blessed we all are for having spent a lifetime in their love, caring and embracing arms. May they all celebrate in heaven as they did in this earthly life. God grant them eternal grace and peace till we are together again.

As awareness of pressures on first responders grows, communities are expanding efforts to provide support and connect them with resources.
